CITY OF LOUISVILLE
OMMUNITY UPDATE
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2004
CITY COUNCIL A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
November approaching,we in Louisville, have an important obligation and
Mayor Charles L. Sisk
W ith
honor with the upcoming national, state, and local elections. In the past, our
303.665.6889 community has responded with a very high voter turn out and I hope that this year we can
siskc @ci.louisville.co.us surpass any of the previous elections. The democratic process is critical and should not be
Ward I ignored by any person over the age of eighteen. I would even suggest for those not yet
Dave Clabots eligible to vote that you can make a difference by educating yourselves and talking about the
issues with your families and friends.
303.673.9116 Our votes count. We don't have to look any further than the last Presidential election or
clabotd @ci.louisville.co.us for that matter, the election two years ago in Colorado's 7th Congressional District where the
margin of victory was just over one hundred votes. I cannot encourage you enough to
John Keany exercise your right to participate and your right to vote regardless of your political
303.665.4818 persuasion. I also challenge our citizens to have the highest voter turn out in Boulder County.
keanyj @ci.louisville.co.us Issues in this election include FasTracks;the initiative to amend the Louisville Home Rule
Ward II Charter, which is referred to as Ballot Issue 200;and the Louisville Fire Protection District
Sheri Marcella question regarding the recall of specific members of that governing body's board. While
303.665.3276 these issues are independent, they will impact Louisville in a variety of ways.
I want to clear up any misunderstanding about the Fire District and its relationship with
marsels @ci.louisville.co.us the City of Louisville. The Louisville Fire Protection District is an autonomous board that
Michele Van Pelt establishes its own mill levy on your tax assessment, collects its own taxes, and thereby
303.673.9235 establishes its own budget. While the Fire District encompasses all of Louisville,it also
involves areas outside of our city limits. The City has no control over the Louisville Fire
vanpelm @ci.louisville.co.us Protection District or the Louisville Volunteer Department.Because of that, the Home Rule
Ward III Charter does not impact or apply to the Louisville Fire Protection District in its activities.
Don Brown The initiative to amend the Home Rule Charter (Ballot Question 200) should be read very
303.673.0648 carefully to understand the total potential impact on our city. I would urge all of our citizens
brownd @ci.louisvillle.co.us to read the entire proposed amendment and to make an informed decision based upon
content and the subsequent effect.
Arnold Levihn As your Mayor,I cannot thank you enough for the privilege of representing our City.We
303.665.2024 continue to move forward with many capital activities, but are mindful of maintaining and
levihna @ci.louisville.co.us enhancing our current assets.I cannot emphasize enough the importance of sales tax dollars
and I urge all residents to be mindful that the financial lifeblood of our City is sales tax
City Manager Bill Simmons revenue. Please shop in Louisville when possible and encourage our friends living outside
303.335.4532 Louisville to shop here as well.
simmonw @ci.louisville.co.us In closing I would like to wish Happy Thanksgiving to the citizens of this wonderful City.
City Council Meetings JOIN MAYOR CHUCK SISK FOR A TOWN MEETING
are held the first and third WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13
Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 — 9:00 PM
7:00 PM, City Hall, CITY HALL, 749 MAIN STREET
749 Main Street LIVE BROADCAST ON CABLE CHANNEL 8
Residents can participate in the meeting in three ways: attend the meeting in
For further information person, email questions to townmeeting @ci.louisville.co.us, or phone in your
about City actin ties and questions to 303.335.4536.
