CITY OF LOUISVILLE <br /> COMMUNITY UPDATE <br /> SUMMER 2002 <br /> CITY COUNCIL MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS INSTITUTED <br /> Tn response to the severe drought that has hit Colorado, the Mayor and City Council <br /> Mayor Torn Davidson lhave implemented mandatory water restrictions for all residental and commercial <br /> 303-666-8573 buildings.With the goal of reducing summertime water usage by 50%, the City began <br /> davidst @ci.louisville.co.us enforcing strict watering regulations on May 20.The City has established a hotline for up- <br /> to-date information about the restrictions at 303-335-4600. <br /> Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Sisk The City has been divided into three zones (please see map on page 2). <br /> 303-665-6889 'Each area is designated for watering two (2) nights per week, between 7:00 <br /> charlesisk @aol.com PM and 7:00 AM only. To increase water <br /> retention in your lawn and landscaping, the City recommends the following: <br /> Michele Van Pelt •Xeriscape-Plant water wise landscaping <br /> 303-673-9235 'Aerate your lawn <br /> vanpelm @ci.louisville.co.us •Use mulch around trees and plants to reduce evaporation <br /> 'Keep grass at least 3-inches high to shade roots and hold moisture <br /> City Manager 'Check frequently for leaks in hoses,pipes,and faucets and fix them promptly <br /> Bill Simmons City staff members began restricting the use of water on City properties in early May. <br /> 303-335-4532 With the goal of "just keeping things alive,"the City has cut water use on parks and fields <br /> simmonw @ci.louisville.co.us CONTINUED ON PAGE 2 <br /> POSSIBLE EXPANSION OF LIBARY AND RECREATION/SENIOR CENTER <br /> City Council Meetings <br /> are held the first and third F arly in 2002, the City hired consulting firms to perform needs assessments for the <br /> 1 iLibrary and the Recreation/Senior Center.These assessments are close to <br /> Tuesdays of each month at completion and will be finalized in June. <br /> 7:00 PM, City Hall, Preliminary analysis on the library indicates a need for a new or expanded building that <br /> 749 Main Street would be more than double in size from the current 13,000 square feet to approximately <br /> 31,000 square feet,on two floors. Site consideration for the facility includes expansion of <br /> FOR FURTHER the current building as well as consideration of other potential site locations in the <br /> downtown area. Once the site location is determined, more specific design detail will <br /> INFORMATION ABOUT CITY occur and final cost estimates completed. Some areas of improvement contemplated in <br /> ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS, the needs assessment include additional public computers,additional seating for children <br /> PT.EASE VISIT and adults, program and performance space for children, a technology training room, a <br /> WWW.ci.LouisvILLE.co.us group study room, and a small conference room.
