Community Up
City of Louisville Winter 2006 - 2007
City Council SEASONAL GREETINGS FROM THE MAYOR
As we enter the last month of the 2006, I wanted to share with you my
Mayor Charles L. Sisk perspective of promise and optimism. The City Council has just completed
303.665.6889 our annual budget process for the City of Louisville. We have approved a budget
siskc @ci.louisville.co.us wherein the projected revenues exceed our expenses. We have an obligation to our
Ward I residents to not only balance the budget, but to take into
Dave Clabots consideration the various implications of uncertain revenue
303.673.9116 streams and spend within those means.
Unlike the Federal government, we cannot be placed
clabotd @ci.louisville.co.us in a position of negative expenditures and adjust to those
Bob Muckle variances by borrowing more money. And unlike Boulder
303.981.0697 County which sets its budget by imposing real estate
muckler@ci.louisville.co.us property taxes within Tabor limits, the City is reliant on sales tax revenues for most
Ward II of its funding. Sales tax revenue is not a predictable tax stream so the City must
adjust its budget to meet the level of sales tax revenue, whatever it may be.
Sheri Marsella Therefore, I can not stress enough the need for all of our residents to shop at
303.665.3276 home and preserve our tax dollars in the community. In this holiday season, I
marsels @ci.louisville.co.us understand that Louisville may not have all of the items you wish to purchase, but
I would hope and urge all of you to shop Louisville if at all possible.
Frost Yarnell I realize shopping opportunities exist in other communities and new openings
303.229.4215 are in evidence monthly. We are currently working to attract new retail outlets
yarnelf @ci.louisville.co.us ourselves and we are laying the groundwork for that as you read this column.
Ward III When you read this last statement, you may properly ask"when can we expect new
shops?" The answer is dependant on many factors, all of which we are trying to
Don Brown address.
303.673.0648 Attracting new retailers takes time, proper location, and a commitment from
brownd @ci.louisville.co.us the City to the retailers and vice versa. We have established certain elements
Ron Sackett to effectuate that plan, but much more needs to be accomplished. We need to
720.890.8970 cultivate retailers and find those retailers compatible with Louisville. Retailers
sacketr @ci.louisville.co.us depend upon traffic and location in part for their clientele. We do currently have
some locations available in downtown and along the South Boulder Road corridor.
City Manager Bill Simmons Equally important is retaining the retailers that we already have in Louisville.
303.335.4532 Therefore, we have all the more reason to shop locally and to thank our existing
simmonw @ci.louisville.co.us retailers by patronizing them.
City Council Meetings are How do I characterize the current situation?Actually, I think it to be very
held the first and third promising and I would base that upon the fact that we have a very good financial
Tuesdays of each month at reserve coupled with sales tax revenues that on a per capita basis exceed many
7:00 PM at City Hall, of our neighbors. This is not the time to despair, but a time to be proactive and
749 Main Street. preserve our position as we make choices.
I thank you for your support and commitment to our City. In closing, from my
To find out in which family to yours we wish each of you a very happy holiday season. I look forward to
Ward you live, please a very successful and prosperous 2007.
contact Meredyth Muth at
303.335.4536 City of Louisville - www.ci.louisville.co.us
