Horticulture & Forestry
Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
Thursday, September 4, 2008
Louisville Library
951 Spruce
First Floor Conference Room
7:00 PM
Theresa Rounds called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
II. Roll call was taken and the following members were present:
Mike Frontzcak, Theresa Rounds, Matt Tepe, Ellen Toon
Guest staff members present: Joe Stevens and Dean Johnson
Staff member absent: Chris Lichty
City Council member absent: Dave Clabots
III. The agenda was approved by all members.
IV. The minutes from the August 7, 2008 meeting were approved as
written.
V. Public and member comments on items not on the agenda: No public
present.
Discussion of progress of IPM resolution: per Joe, many departments are
involved, including Coal Creek golf course and the mosquito abatement program.
Joe will produce a draft IPM document to present to the city manager and to the
city council within the next six months. He is also coordinating with Dean as
Dean becomes familiar with specific locations and issues throughout Louisville.
Discussion of alternatives to using 2,4-D for control of broadleaf weeds: Weed
control in parks and medians has suffered this summer, partly due to
discontinuation of use of 2,4-D since early spring; and partly due to lack of
communication with CoCal and the fact that hand-pulling of weeds was not
included in their contract.
Discussion of maintenance of flower beds in Community Park and throughout
Louisville: Current staffing levels seem inadequate to maintain all plantings.
