LCityO <br />Louisville <br />COLORADO • SINCE 1878 <br />Stand Against Racism Proclamation <br />Whereas, in the wake of hate -motivated shootings in Buffalo, New York, and many <br />other unprovoked attacks on people of color, the City of Louisville denounces white <br />supremacy and the hate it represents and violence it foments; and <br />Whereas, racism is rooted in the foundation of the United States in which people of <br />color have been subjected to hardships, disadvantages and violence that has created a <br />legacy of inherited trauma across generations; and <br />Whereas, racism manifests in distinct ways across other social intersections including <br />gender identity, sexual orientation, class, disability, immigration status and age, and <br />collectively reinforces the racial hierarchy throughout these intersections which weakens <br />the strength of our entire humanity; and <br />Whereas, structural racism plays a large role in determining the conditions in which <br />people are born, grow, work, live and age, and affects people's access to quality housing, <br />education, food, transportation, political power and other social determinants of health; <br />and <br />Whereas, the City of Louisville is committed to eliminating racism in all forms, <br />standing up for social justice and strengthening our community by embracing and <br />welcoming people of diverse backgrounds as an important part of fostering a vibrant <br />community; and <br />Whereas, it is important for the City of Louisville to support and commit to the well- <br />being and safety of all community members and supports those who raise their voices to <br />condemn racism, prejudice and inequality; and <br />Whereas, the City of Louisville is committed to ensuring the right of every citizen to <br />enjoy life, experience equality and live free from discrimination in an inclusive and just <br />society and doing everything in its power to promote racial justice; <br />Whereas, the City of Louisville will continue efforts to prevent hate crimes and <br />investigate and document all credible reports of hate crime incidents and threats; and <br />Whereas, the Louisville City Council urges all sectors of our society and community to <br />take steps to address and support areas that eliminate racism, prejudice and inequality <br />and work together in a shared struggle to create a community where we are not afraid to <br />speak difficult truths, <br />Now therefore, be it proclaimed by the City Council of the City of Louisville, Colorado, <br />that the City of Louisville is committed to standing against racism and listening, <br />learning, reflecting, reevaluating and openly conversing about racism in order to <br />address prejudice and inequality that may exist within the Louisville community and <br />
