WHEREAS, Arbor Day has been celebrated annually since 1872, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Louisville has an annual budgetary commitment to plant <br />and maintain trees within the park system and <br />WHEREAS, through the work of the Horticulture and Forestry Advisory Board, the <br />City has established and committed to an ongoing landscape <br />beautification master :plan involving the planting of numerous trees <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Louisville has further demonstrated a commitment to the <br />health of the tree: inventory by hiring a professional forester to <br />evaluate, upgrade, maintain and plant additional trees throughout <br />Louisville and <br />WHEREAS, through lottery proceeds the City is continuing a long range plan to <br />establish the Louisville Arboretum and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Louisville received a $1,500 grant from the Colorado Tree <br />Coalition for the planting of new trees and <br />WHEREAS, In recognition of the cooperative efforts of the Louisville City Council, the <br />Horticulture and Forestry Advisory Board and city staff, the National Arbor Day <br />Foundation has recognized the City of Louisville as Tree City U.S.A. for 19 <br />consecutive years. <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Tom Davidson, Mayor of the City of Louisville, do hereby proclaim <br />April 22, 2000 as Arbor Day in the city of Louisville and urge all citizens to celebrate efforts to care <br />for our trees and woodlands and to support our city's community forestry program, and I urge all <br />citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of present and future <br />generations. <br />DATED this 41h day of April, 2000. <br />Tom Davidson, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />Nancy Varra, City Clerk <br />
