Monarch High School affectionately known as
"MO -HI" has an artificial surface, multi- purpose field on which
a number of extracurricular activities occur such as band prac-
tice, soccer, lacrosse, football, and track. The field was con-
structed with $300,000 contributed by the City of Louisville
and an equal match from the Boulder Valley School District l
(BVSD). ft
BVSD recently added outdoor lights to allow activities to
take place after dusk. What remains for the Monarch Multi - Purpose facility to be
really useful? We need sufficient outdoor seating —a full stadium —with rest -
rooms, concessions areas, and related improvements such as adequate parking.
Can you imagine attending a graduation of the Monarch High School class
of 2011 at the new Monarch Multi- Purpose Facility (I will leave the name to
others, I just want to get it built!!), rather than attending an event at the Coors
Event Center or the Broomfield Events Center. We could actually have a gradua-
tion ceremony on OUR campus, just like Boulder High School, Centaurus High
School, Nederland High School, and Broomfield High School.
How about this for a sports story- "Louisville, Colorado -The Monarch Coy-
otes defeated the Fairview Knights in the first game played at Monarch Multi -
Purpose Facility..." Now the byline reads that the event takes place in Lafayette
and no disrespect to Lafayette, but Monarch is located in Louisville and com-
Contino_led on page 2
2010 Budget Approved:
Reductions in Service Levels On Tap
T he City Council approved the 2010 budget on Novem-
ber 2. This was a difficult year that required some very
tough budgetary decisions. General Fund revenues are down
approximately 7 %, or about $1 million, since 2008 and are
expected to fall another 1 -2% during the next two years. To
balance the 2010 budget, the City Council approved a signifi-
cant reduction in expenditures as well as increases in various
fees, such as business licenses, building permits, and utility fees.
Service reductions will occur in all City departments. They include:
• Reducing native areas mowing
• Reducing how often we clean City facilities
City of Louisville - www.LouisvilleCo.gov
Winter 2009 -2010
CITY
BUDGET
Continued on page 2
