Members of
the Jacques family from France owned it for 25 years, followed by the 35-year ownership by the
Codron family from France. It was the home of Rene Jacques, who was one of six miners killed
in the Columbine Mine Massacre of 1927.
History of Murphy Place Subdivision
Peter F. Murphy platted the subdivision of Murphy Place in 1907. He did so as President of the
Louisville Realty & Securities Company.
DiSalvo Ownership, 1915-1918; Date of Construction
This parcel is one of two parcels consisting of a total of four lots between Roosevelt and Main
Street and on the north side of Rex Street. In 1915, the Louisville Realty & Securities Company
sold the parcel with the legal description of 829 Rex to Joe DiSalvo. (His name was sometimes
spelled as DiSelvo and DiSalvi.) In 1918, he also acquired ownership of the parcel to the west,
which had the legal description of Lot 5 and the west 20 feet of Lot 6, and the current address
of 320 Roosevelt.
It is not known whether or when Joe DiSalvo lived on the property. In 1918, he sold all four lots
(5, 6, 7, and 8), consisting of what is now both 320 Roosevelt and 829 Rex, to Frank Jacques.
The two Boulder County Assessor cards for 829 Rex both state that the house was constructed
in 1914. The current Boulder County website also gives the date of 1914. However, Boulder
1
