<br /> City Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> January 3, 2006 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br />APPROVAL OF ADDITIONAL SERVICES PROPOSAL WITH MCMENAMIN <br />DESIGN ASSOCIATES FOR CITY HALL REMODEL <br />Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br />Deputy City Manager Julie Boyd explained in 2004, City Council approved a <br />contract for preliminary design services with McMenamin Design Associates of <br />Louisville for renovation of the City Hall. During 2005, City staff from all <br />departments collaborated with MDA to provide a schematic design for <br />renovations for the City Hall. A major remodel of the building is required because <br />of its failure to meet current building codes and the HV AC system must be <br />replaced. The Police Department space is now empty and not functional for <br />other departments. The City leases office space for the Information Systems and <br />Human Resources departments and those departments can be brought back into <br />the building with the renovations thus saving $33,600 in annual lease payments. <br />Staff is requesting the approval of additional services to the design contract with <br />MDA to provide for additional structural engineering, mechanical/electrical <br />engineering, acoustical engineering and technology consulting in the amount of <br />$99,330, bringing the total amount for design services to $105,630. <br />Original Contract amount $23,502 <br />New Contract amount $105,630 <br />Less amount previously expended ($6,300) <br />Plus additional reimbursable $4,150 <br />Total additional services $103,480 <br />Changes to the exterior of the building include an attached stair tower on the <br />south side of the building and other improvements to help the building meet <br />current building safety codes. The interior central stair will be removed to add <br />office space and meeting/conference rooms throughout the building. The space <br />vacated by the Police Department will be renovated. The main entrance on the <br />east side of the building will be expanded to provide more space for public <br />information, with additional bulletin boards for posting and racks for brochures <br />and pamphlets. A new HVAC system and the addition of an emergency <br />generator are also included. <br />The additional services provides for technology improvements including <br />relocation of the building's main computer room and telephone room, and re- <br />wiring the entire building with Category 6 cabling to provide for current and future <br />up-dating of the telephone and computer systems. Wireless access will also be <br />incorporated. Building security will be enhanced with a new building access <br />system and security cameras. The acoustical engineer will provide <br />recommendations and plans for a new digital recording system and for updated <br />viewing equipment in the City Council chambers to provide for better viewing of <br /> rr . <br />
