<br /> City Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> April 18, 2006 <br /> Page 2 of 16 <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA <br /> Paula Nelson, 415 Sunland Street, Louisville, CO addressed the Parent <br /> Engagement Network (PEN), which is a volunteer group that discourages <br /> teenage drinking. This year's campaign is entitled "Parents Who Host Lose the <br /> Most Awareness". The campaign is designed to inform parents and teens who <br /> will be hosting or attending prom or graduation parties about making good <br /> choices around teenage drinking and the Colorado underage drinking laws. <br /> Doug Grinbergs, 530 W. Sycamore Circle, Louisville, CO noted April 26 is <br /> International Noise Awareness Day. He stated noise is not only an annoyance it <br /> has been linked to health related problems, including hearing loss and lack of <br /> sleep. He stressed all citizens' need to be good neighbors and be more aware of <br /> noise pollution. He presented each Council member with a pair of ear plugs. <br /> COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON <br /> THE AGENDA <br /> Mayor Sisk announced that Coal Creek Elementary School will receive the John <br /> Irwin School of Excellence Award. Governor Owens will be present for the <br /> awards on Wednesday, April 19. He also announced the groundbreaking <br /> ceremony for Community Park will be April 29, 2006. <br /> Council member Muckle reported Louisville Elementary School Teacher Barbara <br /> Watson was awarded the Impact on Education Award. <br /> REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> RECOGNITION - GIRL SCOUT TROOP COMMENDATION <br /> Mayor Sisk recognized Girl Scout Troops 1549 and 2400 who completed the <br /> requirements to earn the Bronze Award, a significant accomplishment for an <br /> elementary-school Girl Scout Troop. Troop 1549 selected 'Caring for Animals' as <br /> the main theme for their efforts and volunteered at the Humane Society in <br /> Boulder. Troop 2400 selected 'Adopt a Grandparent' as the main theme for their <br /> efforts and volunteered at Wells Spring Alzheimer's Facility in Louisville. <br /> Troop Co-Leader Mary Ann Weidemann explained the Bronze level for 10 and <br /> 11-year old Girl Scouts requires an extensive amount of work and time and took <br /> 18 months to complete. Weidemann thanked the Girl Scout's parents. <br /> Troop Leader Claudia Diaz Homsi thanked her Co-Leader Angie Garza for her <br /> work and the Mayor and City Council for honoring both Girl Scout Troops. <br />
