The City Staff initiated discussions with the Town of Superior Staff.
Several conversations have occurred over the past months and on April 12th, the
Superior Town Manager and three of his management staff members, met with
Bill Simmons, Patty Leslie and Anne Mojo. The discussion included a general
overview of the financial issues faced by Louisville and responses to a series of
questions from Superior. Louisville has sought financial participation from
Superior for providing library services.
President Alicia Mahoney made a presentation on behalf of the Library Board of
Trustees: Mary Seifert, Lisa Kahn, Jerry Maddox, Channah Horst, Eileen Patrick
and Meredith Davis. The Board recommended the City Council pursue an
equitable financial partnership with the Town of Superior in providing library
services to library patrons who reside in their community. They proposed an
intergovernmental agreement between the communities to cover five or more
years, and should begin no later than 2007. The Library Board of Trustees urged
the City Staff and the City Council to engage the Town of Superior in a
partnership that provides library services for all patrons. Their second
recommendation was that Council adequately staff, equip and give appropriate
resources to the library as it is anticipated the patron use and circulation numbers
will significantly increase with the opening of the new facility.
Mayor Sisk requested public comment. There were no comments.
