LOUISVILLE'S EARTH WEEK (APRIL 18-25) <br />Each year since 1970, April 22 is marked as a day of <br />action with more than a billion people working <br />together towards a cleaner and more resilient <br />environment. Celebrate and get involved this Earth <br />Day by lending a hand or learning more at one of <br />Louisville's many upcoming events and programs <br />during the month of April. <br />Waterwise Yards: Plant Selection for Your Dream <br />Garden <br />Webinar with Resource Central: Wed, April 21, 5:30 PM <br />Earth Day Clean Up with Open Space <br />In -person event w/ limited space:Thurs, April 22, 9 AM <br />Kiss the Ground Virtual Film Screening <br />Webinar:Thurs, April 22, 6:30 PM <br />Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Drop Off <br />In -person and by appointment only: Sat, April 24, 9 AM <br />All events require registration. Visit <br />LouisvilleCO.gov/EarthWeek to find out more about <br />each event and to register. <br />CITY NATURE CHALLENGE: APRIL 20 - MAY 9 <br />— There is nature all around us, even in our <br />cities! Knowing what species are in our city <br />and where they are helps us to study and <br />protect them. The City Nature Challenge <br />is an international effort for people to find <br />and document plants and wildlife in cities <br />across the globe. <br />Download iNaturalist on your smartphone and get <br />ready to be a citizen scientist from April 20 - May 9. <br />Open Space will be hosting a webinar on March 30 to <br />teach residents more about the iNaturalist platform. <br />By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only <br />do you learn more about your local nature, but you <br />can also make your city a better place - for you and <br />other species! Visit LousivilleCO.gov/EarthWeek to <br />learn more. <br />FREE COMPOST FOR YOUR GARDEN <br />Starting the weekend of April 3-4, Louisville residents <br />can collect free compost for their gardens on the first <br />weekend of every month from 8 AM until 4 PM. The <br />compost will be available at the Branch Recycle Site, <br />located just to the north of the Louisville Cemetery on <br />Empire Road. The compost is available through the <br />City's contract with Republic Services. <br />Free mulch is available to collect at any time. <br />Visit LouisvilleCO.gov/LeafandBranch for directions. <br />UPGRADE YOUR COMPOST & RECYCLING CARTS <br />Residents participating in the City's <br />solid waste program through Republic <br />Services can upgrade to a 95 gallon <br />recycling cart and/or a 95 gallon <br />compost cart at no extra cost. <br />To upgrade for free, call Republic's <br />Louisville Customer Service line on 303.286.5400 (Mon <br />- Fri 8 AM - 5 PM) or visit LouisvilleCO.gov/Republic <br />and complete the website contact form. <br />SPRING LEAF & BRANCH CURBSIDE EVENTS <br />Republic customers can take part in the Spring Curb- <br />side Leaf & Branch Collection Events taking place in <br />May. <br />Republic will collect up to twenty (20) compostable <br />bags and an unlimited number of bundles of shrub- <br />bery and tree limbs cut to 4' length, no more than 18" <br />in diameter, and tied with twine or rope. Compostable <br />bags can be purchased at home improvement stores. <br />Tuesday and Wednesday Customers: Sat, May 1 <br />Materials in street/gutter area by 7 AM <br />Thursday and Friday Customers: Sat, May 8 <br />Materials in street/gutter area by 7 AM <br />SWAP YOUR GRASS FOR A LOW-WATER GARDEN <br />For the third year in a row, the City is partnering with <br />Resource Central to offer water customers the <br />opportunity to swap 200 sq ft of maintained grass <br />for a low-water, pollinator-friendly'softscape' garden. <br />Through the popular Grass to Garden program, water <br />customers can receive two FREE Garden In A Box and <br />a drip irrigation retrofit kit, worth over $350. You'll also <br />have direct access to Resource Central's team of <br />xeriscape advisors who can help you along the journey <br />to a waterwise yard. <br />This program, which is open to the Louisville water <br />customers free of charge, aims to help people save <br />both money and water.
