NEEN
NEWS FROM CITY HALL
A MESSAGE FROM CITY MANAGER JEFF DURBIN
As we look back at 2023 and
ahead to the future, we've
accomplished so much and yet
there's still so much to do. We've
continued to recover and rebuild
from the Marshall Fire. More than
80 families who lost their homes
have rebuilt and moved home,
with another 300+ currently in the
process of rebuilding. The City has
rebuilt damaged infrastructure,
and the lessons we learned have served as the
foundations for extensive wildfire mitigation and disaster
preparedness efforts. We were even able to pay those
lessons forward by sending three of our staff members
to a fire -devastated Maui to share the expertise they
gained during and after our fire.
While we've focused so many of our resources on
recovery, we've also managed to maintain our core
services and move important projects forward. This year,
we welcomed a new police chief, and we've continued
to deliver on our commitments to sustainability and
equity, diversity & inclusion. We invited cows and goats
to help manage our open space vegetation naturally,
opened a great new trail, and became just the third city
in Colorado to be named a Bee City USA.
MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
The City of Louisville would liketo announce the unofficial
results from the November 7, 2023 election. These
preliminary results will undergo official certification the
last week of November and final results can be found at
LouisvilleCO.gov/elections. The projected winners are:
Mayor (4 years): Chris Leh
Ward I (4 years): Caleb Dickinson
Ward II (4 years): Deb Fahey
Ward III (4 years): Barbara Hamlington
Ward III (2 years): Dietrich Hoefner
They join sitting Ward II Councilmember Judi Kern.
City of Louisville Ballot Issue 2C: Parks & Open
Space Funding: Voters approved Ballot Issue 2C,
authorizing an increase in taxes to fund open space
preservation and mitigate wildfire risks.
TRADUCCION AL ESPANOL DISPONIBLE
All the while, we've worked to make our community
events and traditions even better, and to bring exciting
arts, culture, and history programs to our city.
2024 is going to be another important and exciting
year for Louisville. We're planning for our community's
future, with work underway on our first -ever Housing
Plan as well as a Downtown Vision Plan. In the new year,
we'll also begin working to update the master plan for
our parks, recreation, open space, and trails. Perhaps
most significantly of all, we'll be updating our city's
Comprehensive Plan, a process by which Louisville will
outline its priorities for the next decade and beyond.
It's more than just a collection of ideas, though — this
plan is the blueprint by which we'll transform our vision
and dreams into reality, and it's something we'll be
building together. There will be many opportunities for
public input over the next year, and we need to hear
from everyone.
It remains my honor and privilege to serve as your
City Manager, to lead an incredible and talented team
dedicated to our community, and to work with our Mayor,
City Council, neighborhoods, and businesses. Together,
we have done remarkable things, and together, we
will continue to build more sustainable, inclusive, and
vibrant Louisville.
With the election of Chris Leh as Mayor, the Louisville
City Council will have a vacant seat in Ward I. The
Council is now tasked with appointing someone to fill
this seat until the 2024 election. Discussions regarding
the appointment process will occur in late November.
If you are interested in applying for the vacant seat,
detailed information will be available on the City's
website. Alternatively, you may contact the City Clerk
for further assistance at MeredythM©LouisvilleCO.gov
or 303.335.4536.
The City warmly welcomes its new Mayor and Council
members, and encourages residents to stay engaged
and informed. These elected officials assume their
responsibilities when they are sworn in at the November
28, 2023 City Council Meeting.
Para leer esta publicacion en espanol, visite LouisvilleCO.gov/CommunityUpdate o Ilame al 303.335.4814 para
recibir una copia impresa.
To read this publication in Spanish, visit LouisvilleCO.gov/CommunityUpdate or
call 303.335.4528 to receive a printed copy.
0
Page 2 • Winter 2023-24
COL-2023-CU-Winter-Working_F.indd 2
11/14/23 10:07 AM
