SUSTAINABILITY
L
SUSTAINABILITY SPOTLIGHT
As summer approaches, the City's Sustainability
team would like to share a few updates with
the community.
New changes to compost program: food scraps
and yard & plant trimmings only
Cities all along the Front Range are working
with regional compost processor Al Organics
to create a high -quality, clean -finished compost product.
Al Organics has announced changes due to widespread
contamination (materials placed in the wrong cart) that
apply to all cities and towns in the region.
It is extremely difficult for Al Organics to separate
contamination (i.e. clothing, diapers, pet waste, glass,
plastics, etc.) at their facility, due to the number
of unacceptable materials entering their facility and the
difficulty of manually sorting these unwanted items out
of the finished product. As of April 1, 2023, compostable
serviceware, paper products, and compostable bags
larger than 3 gallons will no longer be accepted in
residential and commercial compost carts.
The City of Louisville's goal is to provide Al Organics
with contamination -free material, and we need your
help! Please call Republic Services at 303.286.5400
or visit RepublicServices.com or Ecocycle.org with
any questions about these new changes.
Take a look at the Compost Guidelines poster on page
7 for more information about what is currently allowed
in your curbside compost bin.
Resource Central 2023 Programs
Optimize your water use with Slow the Flow
sprinkler assessments
Are you struggling to wrap your head around your
sprinkler system? The City and Resource Central can
help with a free sprinkler evaluation. Resource Central
associates will run a few tests to check the sprinklers'
efficiency and diagnose any problems a system might
have. At the end of the evaluation, residents will receive a
customized watering schedule designed to reduce water
usage and keep lawns healthy and beautiful all summer
long! Evaluations last about 75 minutes and could help
residents save thousands of gallons of water each year.
Simply register at ResourceCentral.org/Sprinklers
or call 303.999.3824.
Slow the Flow
_Optimize you rvvater
•
CUSTOMIZE YOUR
YOUR
WATERING SCHEDULE
REDUCE YOUR
WATER WASTE
FREE
SPRINKLER
EVALUATION!
Limited number
available
IMPROVE YOUR
SYSTEM KNOWLEDGE
Sign i•^ $^, ••^• CNMMLIAM ^.1.,1...,+:1ft
n today!
Resou rceCentral.org/sprinklers or 303-999-3824
■ City,,
Om Louisville cerltrai
R .SOURCE
:O of liYr•. Fid,.4,
Be part of the water saving solution: smart
controller installation
The City of Louisville is partnering with Resource
Central to offer sprinkler controller upgrades at no cost
to Louisville residents! The Rachio 3 smart controller
takes the guesswork out of watering the lawn with easy
to use, smartphone-controlled watering and tailored
schedules that automatically adapt to weather. There
is a limited quantity of smart controllers available and
eligible participants must receive a (free) Slow the Flow
sprinkler consultation priorto receiving a smart controller
upgrade. Visit ResourceCentral.org/SmartControllers
for more info, or contact Water@ResourceCentral.org.
Explore clean energy products with EnergySage
Boulder County has launched an innovative new
program that simplifies the process of adopting clean
energy products such as heat pumps and solar panels.
The program provides residents with easy access
to transparent and informative online evaluation tools,
allowing them to make better decisions regarding their
energy needs.
In partnership with EnergySage, the nation's leading
marketplace for clean energy and energy -saving
solutions, this initiative has the potential to revolutionize
the way residents shop for and purchase clean energy
products and services.
Page 4 • Summer 2023
