ei
BE THE VOICE OF LOUISVILLE'S YOUTH!
Are you interested in local government, community
issues, and volunteering? Are you a Louisville resident
who will be in the 6-12th grade this upcoming school
year? Apply for a seat on Louisville's Youth Advisory
Board! Must be available the first Thursday night of
each month as well as an additional 2-4 hours each
month. Application deadline is 8:00 a.m. on September
5, 2023. Visit LouisvilleCO.gov/YAB to learn more.
THE NEW PET MAYOR OF LOUISVILLE IS...
Louisville's Youth Advisory Board is excited to announce
our first Pet Mayor election winners. Congratulations to
canine candidates Arlo and Hops! The election ended
in a tie, and the Youth Advisory Board appointed both
winners as co -mayors for a two-year term.
Arlo is a Corgi who was rescued three years ago after
being surrendered to a shelter from a bad situation that
left him with some physical challenges. But that hasn't
stopped him from spreading cheer everywhere! Hops
is an amazing, partially -paralyzed 5-year-old terrier mix
that was rescued after being hit bya car and scheduled to
be euthanized. He is such a happy boy and an excellent
representative for those who are differently abled. We're
excited to have such PAW-sitive role models as our first
Pet Mayors.
Keep an eye out for Hops and Arlo around the City and
leading the Pet Parade on Monday, Sept. 4. Thanks to all
the pet candidates, voters, City Council, and everyone
else who made this PAW-ssible!
EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
As we move into the summer, the City continues to focus
on one of our core values: Respect. That means treating
people with care and consideration, encouraging
authenticity, and celebrating the differences which
make our community a special place.
In June, we'll again be celebrating Pride Month and
honoring the contributions of our LGBTQ+ community
members. We'll also be celebrating Juneteenth, which
commemorates the end of slavery in 1865, on June 19.
Come July, we'll be marking the 33rd anniversary of the
passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Finally, as
the summer stretches into August, we'll again celebrate
our community's rich Italian -American heritage.
