DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION AT THE CITY
For the past several months the City of Louisville has
undertaken discussions regarding racial equity,
diversity and inclusion both internal to the
organization and with the community at large. In June,
City Council took an important first step, by reviewing
the Louisville Police Department policies and
procedures and initiating a community -wide
conversation about racial equity in Louisville. The City
hired the Denver -based The Equity Project to assist
with two community conversations on race.
The sessions were held in August and September and
were led by Dr. Nita Mosby-Tyler.The second session
included Spanish and ASL translation. Each meeting
provided the opportunity for Louisville City Council
members to listen with an open mind to the
experiences and ideas of residents regarding this
important issue. In follow-up discussion, Council
demonstrated a firm commitment to work toward
becoming a more diverse, inclusive and responsive
community. The City is currently scoping next steps to
continue to engage the community around this issue
in an informed and meaningful way.
The City has also established an internal staff working
group to support training, development and an in-
clusive cultural climate within the organization. These
efforts include training to better understand and
recognize personal biases and strategies to change
patterns of thinking and organizational constructs that
may perpetuate discrimination. The City has applied
to become a member of Government Alliance for Race
and Equity (GARE).
As this initiative evolves, more information will be
available on LouisvilleCO.gov/RacialEquity, in
addition to these great resources:
• Recordings of Dr. Mosby -Tyler's presentations and
community input regarding racial equity.
• Louisville Library resources for those looking to
learn more about racial equity, diversity and
inclusion.
