Revitalization Commission
Minutes
December 11, 2024
Page 6of9
Commissioner Williams commented that the LRC has never exhausted the full program budget,
and she expressed optimism that this funding can be used in support of the LRC's priorities.
Commissioner Tofte asked where the $1 M committed to the underpass is identified in the Work
Plan. The EV Manager responded that she would add it under program implementation. The
hope is that the underpass and Downtown Vision Plan construction can be timed together. Staff
will know more about construction timing in Q1 of 2025.
Commissioner Harald expressed appreciation for the specificity in this item and the inclusion of
the marketing item in the work plan. He believes there is a lot of benefit to reach out and
connect more with businesses in the district through marketing and promotional materials. He
also expressed appreciation for the Chamber's desire to engage and collaborate more.
Commissioner Lipton commented that we don't mention trying to secure additional funding from
grants and he believes other communities do this. He suggested this be added to the Work Plan
for next year to see if additional funding is available. The EV Manager responded that the City's
Economic Vitality work plan does include seeking options to secure additional funding. She
noted that the City's Economic Vitality area may be a larger or smaller area than the Urban
Renewal District and URA might be able to support that. Commissioner Lipton asked that a
bullet point be added to the Work Plan to indicate that this is an area the LRC will be focused
on, possibly in collaboration with the EVC.
Chair Adler commented that, similar to when items like the holiday lights project come up and
the LRC feels they could support need in the vitality of downtown could the LRC provide funding
for these projects. The EV Manager said she could add a bullet point, noting that the Work Plan
is almost like a job description where there are "other duties" that don't need to be specifically
identified in order to be supported.
Marketing and Promotion
Williams asked if the LRC collaborates with DBA/Chamber would staff do this. The EV Manager
commented that she typically sends information to include in their communications multiple
times a year.
Chair Adler asked how staff foresees using the funding for this item. The EV Manager
responded that there are a few options, suggesting that the LRC could be a partner in the
Support Louisville Campaign, there could be direct mailings, etc. She also suggested that the
LRC's collateral should be updated first and added that staff will look for other options. It was
also noted that the city has budget to redo the website and there are a lot of opportunities we
can look at.
Chair Adler asked Commissioner Iglesias about the decals the LRC created last year.
Commissioner Iglesias responded that she doesn't seem them anywhere. The EV Manager
commented that this doesn't have to be decided today.
Commissioner Iglesias commented that she always thought marketing outside of Louisville to
attract businesses would be important. The EV Manager responded that we do that regularly
through Economic Vitality through trade shows as well as targeted outreach to retail and real
estate brokers nationwide.
Agenda Packet P. 8
