Library Board of Trustees Work Plan <br />2025 <br />Sharon's suggestions in black. <br />Laurel's suggestions in blue. <br />Economic Vitality: <br />As trustee of an organization that sees over 200,000 patron visits every year (probably <br />the busiest downtown amenity) we will advocate for a Library Trustee to participate in any <br />committee guiding the Downtown Vision Plan execution. <br />The LBoT will also continue to advocate and support partnerships between the library <br />and Louisville businesses in programs such as the Summer Reading Scavenger Hunt. <br />Are there economic development task forces, a chamber of commerce, other groups or <br />initiatives that support downtown Louisville's growth and vitality? With 200,000 visits (is that <br />visits or visitors?), the library is probably the anchor in downtown. What can the library do to <br />help other businesses? What can Louisville build around the library? <br />Core Services: <br />Library isn't listed as a core service. One of the library's primary values is to create a <br />sense of belonging. At a time when the country is experiencing an epidemic of loneliness, which <br />poses a major public health risk, we will advocate for the library to bring more people together <br />in a wider variety of ways. We will advocate for the Library to be considered a core service. <br />The LBoT will continue to advocate for library policies that improve accessibility for all <br />library patrons. <br />Sharon's comment suggests the library can be a more significant draw to bring people <br />together in new ways and more often to combat loneliness (and increase traffic and energy <br />downtown — see Economic Vitality). This is different than improving accessibility which could be <br />read as finding it easier for current patrons to access services or for current services to be <br />accessed more easily. Fighting loneliness might be a different service from what's already being <br />offered. And there might be ways to partner with other Louisville institutions. The Senior Center <br />comes to mind. <br />Safety: <br />We will advise staff to leverage their relationships with residents to build an even <br />stronger relationship with PD. Some ideas - Continue Officer Storytime, host regular sessions <br />where residents can meet the Chief or officers. We will also advise staff to continue <br />connections with the fire department and host events such as firefighter story time and perhaps <br />even host a joint bike and pedestrian safety storytime to include public safety personnel. <br />
