Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board
Minutes
May 7, 2025
V. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda
Comments from Community members:
Beth Armbruster, regarding a native plant garden at the Arboretum and
landscaping around arboretum. Beth requested to have more pollinator -friendly
plants. Not in love with Bermuda grass but would appreciate mulch around rock
landscaped area and addition of pollinator plants. This would improve
appearance and enjoyability more than just. Beth would appreciate pollinator
plants that would complement other landscape elements, including additional
purchase of Garden in a Box, improving pollinator habitat by close spacing. East
side area could be devoted to demonstration gardens for homeowners and the
public to enjoy!
VI. Cornerstone Community Landscape Bed Renovations at Eldorado Lane
a. Review design and planting list
Abby reported that Staff has redesigned plant selections for Cornerstone
area for diversity of species, with focus on perennial plants, water
conservation, and fire wise ratings.
Staff is working with new fire wise criteria, learning to be mindful of plant
lists using fire wise criteria. Staff applied this new information to revise
plant selection. Plants under consideration are summarized on the plant
list in this month's meeting packet.
Staff completed redesign of Cornerstone bed at McCaslin/Via Apia stop
light and two planting beds at the Eldorado entrance. Staff included Miss
Kim lilac to balance the Lilac that survived the fire, in spite of non-native
origin and poor fire wise rating.
Staghorn sumac grows well in a rock landscaped area and can tolerate a
lot of heat in that setting. Staghorn has good survival characteristics.
Existing plants will be moved to another area.
Eldorado entrance features a full rock bed surface. Serviceberry has done
well in that area and is a fire survivor. Yucca is drought tolerant.
Plans include adding 2 white and 2 pink crab apples to match the
surviving crab apple trees. Staff will be using larger plants in hopes of
increasing survival and plans to upgrade irrigation in the planting area.
City of Louisville
Parks Division 749 Main Street Louisville CO 80027
303.335.4774 (phone) www.LouisvilleCO.gov
4
