Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board
Minutes
June 4, 2025
City Manager Langley noted that the Integrated Weed Management Procedures
(IWMP) are under consideration, with a study session scheduled for later this year.
John: Organic maintenance practices could be a great marketing tool for our
community, promoting a healthier community and quality of life.
Ginger: When Louisville originally discontinued glyphosate and 2-4d, some
community education was very important. With the continued IWMP, the same
degree of communication is still necessary for Parks and Open Space. In the
future, Parks and Open Space may need separate plans. Reseeding and grazing
are in progress to restore the original environment. We may need to correct the
tools for the application, mowing is not always the answer.
Jody: Beyond Pesticides and Pesticide Free Communities are great sources that
describe pesticide -free management practices. Jody noted that there is an article
in the meeting packet regarding the use of pesticides in the community.
John: Can we encourage our community to learn more about more sustainable
management of private lawns and turf areas. I have heard that Boulder Valley
Schools have gone to organic turf management practices. This may be district
wide but needs to be verified. I will check with my contact at the People and
Pollinators Action Network (PPAN) to find out the details.
Signe dropped off virtual meeting due to not feeling well.
8. August PPLAB meeting schedule
Jody will be unavailable. PPLAB will need 4 members to satisfy the quorum
requirement. Three members are currently scheduled to be out of town. PPLAB
Chair Ash called for a vote cancelling the August PPLAB meeting. PPLAB
members made and seconded the motion, motion passed.
9. Board Report
Louisville Bee City USA committee will present a Pollinator Garden Tour on
Sunday, June 29, 9AM to 2PM. The committee will sponsor a Wildflower Walk at
Davidson Mesa Open Space, conducted by Dave Sutherland, an independent
naturalist formerly of the BoCo Open Space, the same Sunday morning, June 29,
10AM to 12 PM. These two activities dovetail with Lafayette's Old Town Garden
Tour, scheduled for the previous day, Saturday June 28. This could be the
beginning of a local Pollinator festival! Governor Polis has declared June as
Colorado Pollinator month.
Our Art Contest did not have many entries this year, possibly because the library
was closed during the month of April.
