Louisville Municipal Code That Would Increase The Salaries Of Certain Elected City
Officials.

Davidson called for staff presentation.

Bill Simmons, City Administrator, explained that this Ordinance would authorize
referring to the registered electors of the City amendments to the Louisville Municipal
Code that would increase the salaries of the Mayor, Councilmembers, City Clerk, and
City Treasurer. He stated that the proposed annual salaries would be $6,000 for the
Mayor, and $3,000 for Councilmembers, City Clerk and City Treasurer.

Davidson opened the public hearing and called for anyone wishing to speak on Ordinance
No. 1305, Series 1999 - An Ordinance Sumitting to the Registered Electors proposed
Amendments to the Louisville Municipal Code that Would Increase the Salaries of
Certain Elected Officials.

NONE

Davidson closed the public hearing and called for Council comments and questions.

Mayer asked Sam Light, City Attorney, whether it would be legal for Council to adopt
this Ordinance the same as any other Ordinance.

Light replied, yes. He explained that there is a restriction to the statute for the timing
during which you may adopt an ordinance increasing salaries, which would be sixty days
before the election. He continued that Council would be able to refer this as well.

Mayer asked to clarify that the Council could have adopted this by a vote, however,
Council is accountable to the residents of Louisville and the residents should be the ones
to decide whether or not to increase salaries of certain elected officials.

Bill Simmons, City Administrator, asked to clarify that, if approved, this pay increase
would not take effect for Councilmembers currently in office, only to those elected to a
term of office beginning January 2000.

Sisk moved that Council approve Ordinance No. 1305, Series 1999 - An Ordinance
Submitting to the Registered Electors proposed Amendments to the Louisville Municipal
Code that Would Increase the Salaries of Certain Elected Officials, seconded by Lathrop.

Roll call was taken. Motion passed by a vote of 6-0, with Howard being absent.

Davidson stated that, if approved, this would be the first pay increase for elected officials
since 1980.

5
