Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
November 3, 2005

Mahoney from the Louisville Library; and Alex Colbear from the Louisville
Youth Advisory Board.
Discussion centered on partnership between HFAB and the Library regarding
educational opportunities in the form of displays in the Library, and programs
for adults and children.

Regarding displays, several ideas were mentioned, including a temporary
display upstairs highlighting various gardening-themed books; a seasonal
Arbor Day display; space in the lobby for Arboretum brochures; a rotating
display of some of the seven panels showing Arboretum development; and a
special display of botanical illustrations from local artists.

Regarding programs, the Library staff is very amenable to collaborations with
HFAB, and would like to schedule programs for this spring if possible, and
also look ahead to spring 2008. Landscape Contract Specifications-Update
City Council must approve any changes to the contract, which will be going
out to bid in February.

VIII. Arboretum
Chris reported that Scott will follow up on status of 501 (c) (3) non-profit
appl ication.

Susan will email draft of CSU letter to all board members for review.

Chris suggested that this year's Arbor Day celebration be scheduled on
Saturday, April 28 to coincide with the Denver metro area's "Plant 7000 trees
in 7 days" initiative. A portion of the City's tree budget could be used to
purchase trees for planting by volunteers. Discussion of where and how
many trees to plant; size of trees and whether bare-root, container, or ball-
and-burlap; and methods for recruiting and organizing volunteers.
