<br />21. Sign: Any writing, pictorial representation, decoration
<br />(including any material used to differentiate sign copy from its back-
<br />ground), form, emblem, or trademark, flag or banner, or any other figure
<br />of similar character which:
<br />
<br />1. Is a structure or any part thereof
<br />(including the roof or wall of a building) ;
<br />or,
<br />
<br />2. Is written, printed, projected, painted,
<br />constructed or otherwise placed or displayed
<br />upon or designed into a building, board, plate,
<br />canopy, awning, vehicle, or upon any material
<br />object or device whatsoever; and,
<br />
<br />3. Which by reason of its form, color, wording,
<br />symbol, design, illumination, motion, or other-
<br />wise, attracts or is designed to attract atten-
<br />tion to the subject thereof or is used as a
<br />means of identification, advertisement or
<br />announcement.

<br />22. Sign Face: The surface of a slgn upon, against, or
<br />through which the message is displayed or illustrated.
<br />
<br />23. Free Standing Sign or Ground Sign: A sign which is
<br />supported by one or more columns, uprights or braces in or upon the
<br />ground and shall also include a monument Slgn and pole signs but
<br />does not include a sign attached to a structure.
<br />
<br />24. Projecting Sign: A double-faced sign which projects
<br />more than 12" over private or public property, a.nd which uses a
<br />building wall as its main source of support.
<br />
<br />25. Roof Sign: A sign erected upon or above a roof or
<br />parapet wall of a building and which is wholly or partially supported
<br />by said building.
<br />
<br />26. Wall Sign: A sign which lS in any manner affixed to
<br />any exterior wall of a building or structure and which projects not
<br />more than 12" from the building or structure wall and which does not
<br />extend more than 2' above the parapet, eaves or building facade of
<br />the building on which it is located.
<br />
<br />27. Temporary Sign: A sign which lS tended to advertise
<br />community or civic projects, construction projects, real, estate for
<br />sale or lease, or other special events on a temporary basis.

<br />17.24.030 Sign Permits
<br />No sign, except for signs listed in Section 17.24.140 shall
<br />be painted, constructed, erected, remodeled, relocated, expanded or
<br />have the copy of the slgn changed or altered until a permit for such
<br />sign has been obtained. No permit shall be issued unless there is
<br />full compliance with the provisions of this Chapter.
<br />17.24.040 General Standards
<br />Signs may be erected, altered and maintained only for, and
<br />be a permitted use ln, the district in which the signs are locatedi
<br />
<br />
<br />shall be located on the same lot as the permitted uses; and shall be
<br />
<br />
<br />clearly incidental, customary and commonly associated with the
<br />
