Louisville Sustainability Advisory BoardMeeting Minutes –December 15,2010Page 2of 4
use. Andy said he doesn’t know, but he would like to see better interface with various
city departments, particularly the planning department.
Ted
–Is interested in general education systems and developing LSAB as a reference
for recycling and composting. He is also interested in providing references for best
practices and hints to encourage people to recycle and compost; e.g. use compostable
bags, how to prohibit flies from gathering in kitchens.
Mary Ann
-Wants to present the Livable Cities summary to as many boards,
committees, and departments as possible to begin educating and building support for
the approach. She also wants to assume responsibility for Robin’s UCD sustainability
study efforts.
Arno
–Would like torevise the website so that more information can be posted on it.
He also wants to provide outreach for sustainability; e.g., a sustainability section in the
library with sustainability reference books and guides.
Mark read last year’s goals and suggested we post the list on the LSAB website. It
would indicate what we are working on and the status of each activity –giving citizens a
feel for our activities. We could provide links to presentations and updates as needed.
Mark said we should review our approach with council.
Arno indicated that he felt our enthusiasm evaporated after out meeting with council. He
would like to pick up enthusiasm by adding to website vision and mission statement.
Arno indicated that he would assume the responsibility for website design from Annie.
Andy asked if we could change it easily. Arno said we need to talk about how to
navigate it. There are some restrictions of city’s design –for instance there is only a
small window that opens; people cannot see entire page at once. He can address this
by hanging popup menus that list all the topics. Another aspect is that LSAB has to
provide all material to Meredith to post. He’s like to restructure the website so people
can get to entire site instead of the small window. He and Annie had some discussions
with Meredith last fall. We just have to decide how we want it then present to Meredith.
We will provide text and graphics and she will integrate into our page. Arno thought that
the site software was low level.
Andy suggested putting together an action plan (master plan onwhat and how items get
posted for the site) for next meeting. Arno indicated that he would provide an action
plan fro the website activities at our next meeting.
Colin
–Would like to see representation from LSAB at parades, city sponsored holiday
functions, etc. He asked if LSAB had participated in city events in the past. Mark said
we had handed out Xmas lights previously and also worked a table at the park one
Labor Day. But Mark cautioned that it was difficult to get people to volunteer time during
a holiday. Colin mentioned that we have a fairly large contingent of energy managers in
Boulder County that LSAB could ask to staff a booth with us. There are multiple energy
incentives offered by Boulder County and citizens may not be aware of them. LSAB
could arrange for a table at a street fair and have a Boulder County representative or
XCEL representative join us.
