Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 21, 2011

Stewart answered in the affirmative and stated the proposed language follows their
direction.
John Leary stated it is important for historical preservation to be included in all City
processes.
Stewart stated the Business Retention and Development (BRaD) committee has agreed
to forward all business assistance packages (BAPs) to HPC. He inquired whether the
HPC should have a representative at the BRaD meetings.
Lewis asked if this question should be asked to BRaD while the HPC is at BRaD
presenting the commercial incentives.
The other HPC members agreed.
Update/Discussion/Action – Steinbaugh Pavilion
McCartney presented the attached memo.
Speier stated the DBA sketch allows the existing building to standout more than the
employee sketch. If it is only about coverage, maybe consider an awning. He stated he
did not want to detract from the historical building.
Koertje stated the building was about 5 years old.
Poppitz asked if the project was only to create additional comfort.
McCartney answered in the affirmative.
Poppitz asked if staff had considered paddle fans.
There was further discussion regarding specific elements of the awning.
Stewart asked what would be the funding source.
McCartney stated the Downtown Business Authority (DBA) would upfront the cost and
the City would reimburse the DBA.
Stewart stated he didn’t mind staff’s shed design, it goes with the “barn” look.
Lewis stated she thought it would be important to pull the awning back from the trees
and fans would be a good idea.
Update/Discussion/Action – Plaques – Louisville Landmarks
Stewart stated he appreciated the conversation with City Council regarding landmark
plaques. He then presented some alternative design.
Tofte volunteered to help with the selection process.
Lewis commented on which plaque she liked – the Texas plaque.
Update/Discussion/Action – Commercial Incentives
Stewart asked staff if there were any dates scheduled for the commercial incentives
road show.
