PAGE TWO
SUBJECT: UPDATE/DISCUSSION – BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS
(BCBOA)
DATE: MAY 10, 2011
Code Amendments – The BCBOA is discussing potential local code amendments to the
International Building Codes to more specifically meet issues unique to our area, i.e. high wind
and roofing requirements, square footage minimums for sheds, townhome fire separation walls
to name a few.
City of Louisville Mobile Home Ordinance – The BCBOA has been reviewing this out
dated and not enforced ordinance. The BCBOA has determined that a new ordinance with
enforceable code language needs to be installed.
2011 WORK GOALS
Green Building –
The BCBOA is reviewing the Sweep Document to determine if the
City of Louisville should adopt some, none or all of the recommendations for a Green Building
Code program. Also, they are monitoring the not yet completed International Code Council’s
International Green Construction Code. The Chief Building Official is attending meetings with
stakeholders when possible and monitoring the others, to communicate how this may factor
into the Board’s final decision.
BCBOA Bylaws –
The BCBOA has completed amendments to the bylaws and will vote
on forwarding them to the City Attorney and then on to City Council at the next BCBOA
meeting.
Residential Fire Sprinklers –
Residential Fire Sprinklers will be a part of the 2012 code
cycle. The board is monitoring the state legislature, other jurisdictions in the state and will be
working with the Louisville Fire Protection District to determine if it will be appropriate to include
them in the 2012 code adoption.
Code Amendments –
The BCBOA and the Building Safety Division are in the process
of determining if a limited number yet specific building code amendments would benefit the
Division. Some are current policies and practices that may be more clearly enforceable if they
were actual amendments.
Mobile Home Ordinance –
The current mobile home ordinance has not been updated
since 1975 and we don’t believe it has ever been enforced at least not in its entirety. We will be
considering other area ordinances and will insure it is enforceable and appropriate for the City
of Louisville and will be submitting to City Council for approval late 2011 or early 2012.
ATTACHMENTS:
1.
