City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />May 26, 2011 <br />Page 3 of 5 <br />Pine Beetle has hit Louisville affecting Ponderosa and Scotch Pine trees. There <br />have been only two to three cases of Pine Beetle. Turf mite damage is also <br />affecting turf. A large section in Community Park is affected and the Parks <br />Division is handling the replacement of the sod. Board Members stated the only <br />thing to do with turf mite damage is to replace with new sod. The Board said that <br />we're coming out of one of the Front Range's driest winters on record, and the <br />Board encouraged watering landscapes during the winter months. <br />Michael Menaker commented on irrigation running in a driving rainstorm. Dean <br />Johnson, Parks Superintendent, explained the City's Centralized Irrigation <br />System and how rain sensors work. <br />Mayor Sisk thanked the Board for their time and effort and said the City of <br />Louisville is the beneficiary. <br />Update /Discussion — Open Space Advisory Board <br />Chair Tom Davinroy presented for the Board. Other members present were <br />Justin McClure and Helen Moshak. Members absent from tonight's presentation <br />were Alison Gorsevski, Spencer Guthrie, Michael Schantz, Linda Smith and <br />David Waldman. <br />Tom Davinroy presented 2010 Accomplishments and 2011 Goals for the Board. <br />This last year the Board prepared a Goals spreadsheet where they could track <br />the goal, actions assigned to accomplish, member assigned, and target date for <br />completion. Members found the spreadsheet to be very helpful keeping them on <br />track. <br />The Board has begun presenting five - minute filmed interviews on CCTV /East <br />County Live. The two filmed segments went well, and ran on CCTV and will <br />continue to run regularly. Improvements were made to the City's Open Space <br />web pages, and the number of volunteers increased, and educational <br />opportunities were again offered. City staff is responsible for the success of the <br />Open Space Volunteer Program and the Educational Programs, and Tom gave <br />full credit to Ember Brignull and Jim Krick from the Open Space Division for <br />coordination and organization of these programs. The Fishing Frenzy was again <br />a success. The Fishing Frenzy is held annually for kids at the Warembourg Pond. <br />The vote for the Open Space tax will be coming up in the next couple of years <br />and if voters approve the tax, the focus will be more on maintenance than <br />acquisition. The public will be made aware of this shift. The Board is working <br />with Code Enforcement to encourage more enforcement /ticketing when dogs are <br />found to be off -leash in designated areas of open space where the leash law <br />applies. <br />
