Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
April 13, 2011
• Tom pointed out that increasing the amount of
concrete sometimes has increased environmental
consequences, so the Board has been wary of this.
VI. Staff Updates
a. Aquarius Construction: Trail work has been completed. County has
yet to reseed, but the major elements are completed.
b. LOSAC: Meeting with Lafayette LOSAC is scheduled for May 5.
c. Bench Donations: There have been 5 requests in 2 weeks, so there
will be some new benches appearing in Open Space. Two will be put in at
Davidson Mesa. There have also been requests for one at Coyote Run, one at
Harper Lake, and another at Warembourgh Fishing Pond.
o There is no official policy regarding the density of benches.
d. Volunteer Appreciation Dinner: Scheduled for April 21
e. Fishing Frenzy: Friday, April 29. We will need volunteers to help with
casting, taking off the fish, handing out fishing poles, baiting the hooks.
There are two sessions — 9am and 11 am.
o This year we will have 5 D.O.W. representatives helping with the
education stations.
f. Bird Walk at North Open Space: May 7, 7 am. The walk will be lead
by a local raptor expert. Must register in advance with Nimira.
g. Findings Presentation: Joe made a presentation to City Council
about the Master Plan survey findings. It will be necessary to determine
which land the City actually owns and maintains.
h. Volunteer Weed pull: May 4, location TBD, time is tentative for 9am.
The City Manager will be there.
VII. Board Update
a. Mike was contacted at the Findings meeting with the following
comments:
(1) Thistle weeds are a problem in Enclave Park;
(2) The social trial from W. Pine Drive to Davidson Mesa is closed. Is
there anyway to get a dedicated trail?
o The problem there is that that is a private lot, so there is now a
fence to prevent access.
(3) There was a suggestion that parking be increased at the dog park at
Davidson Mesa.
