Sustainability AdvisoryBoard
April-2011 Meeting Minutes
Page 2of3
to reach 75%. The goal is to reach “almost” 100% by 2025. One of the key focus areas
is construction and demolition diversion. Others include extending composting
programs, and enhancing education programs.
There were comments and questions for Lisa from the LSAB members. Mark noted
that the Louisville tree branch dropoff site has reopened (open first weekend of each
month) and that there is now scrap metal recycling at the Louisville yard.Mark asked
Lisa what she recommended Louisville should do. Lisa said that’s the question she
likes to ask the cities; LSAB can use the county plan as a guideline but establish its own
goals appropriate to Louisville. She noted that Louisville has authority to implement
ordinances affecting businesses. Mary Ann suggested that Mark create a ‘Top 5’ list for
Louisville to present to City Council. Mary Ann also suggestedthe city should have
permanent recycle bins along Main Street. Mark suggested we work with event
organizers to ensure they are provided at events. Ted suggested we take that a step
further and provide staffed recycle areas at events to help inform and educate the
public. Annie noted how much waste is generated at private parties and suggested an
education effort for that. There was further discussion around commercial recycling and
the benefits of large centralized recycle centers vs smaller decentralized centers. The
discussion was tabled and Mark took an action to draft a proposal for review at a future
meeting.
Lisa Friend can be contacted by email at lfriend@bouldercounty.org.
.
VIII.Community Update:
Mary Ann stated that the newsletter should be sent out in
the third week of May. The consensus was that it is published three times annually so
the next release will be in September.
IX. Website Design Update:
Ted had not had a chance to talk to Meredith about
updating the site but Ted and Arno will set up a meeting with her in the next couple of
weeks. Ted suggested that we leverage websites that already have a wealth of
information, such as www.rechargecolorado.comand www.sustainablecolorado.com,
and insert excerpts from those sites on the LSAB site, with monthly updates and links to
those sites.Arno noted one of our key goals with the website is to bring attention to
Louisville as a ‘sustainability city.’ Andy agreed but asked how we execute on that.
Mark requested that Ted and Arnoset up the meeting with Meredith and provide an
update at the next meeting.
X. Solar Homes Tour Update:
Andy provided an update of the Solar Homes Tour,
noting that the date would be late Sep or early Oct and that LSABneedsto set the date.
He noted it would take significant effort to organize and execute and would need
involvement from all LSAB members as well as Transition Louisville. Andy will send out
some materials prior to the next meeting, and will be requesting time for the topic in
every LSAB meeting prior to the tour.
