<br />. - <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />In each instancl=, tangible verification must be made <br />available, such as official orders for military duty, doctor's <br />statement for pregnancy, and prolonged illness, etc. <br />An employee on approved military, pregnancy, or prolonged <br />illness leave, shall continue to accrue seniority during such leave; <br />and other genefits such as sick leave, eligibility for pension, vaca- <br />tion benefits, and the like-will be restored to the level they had <br />been at the time the employee took the leave upon the employee <br />returning to City employmE=nt: at the completion of the leave. <br /> <br />5 E-6. ABSENCE WITHOU'I' LEAVE: No City employee may be <br />absent from work without leave without specific permission from- <br />his Department Head or Ci:~ Administrator. When an employee is <br />absent for three continuous days, the employee shall be automatically <br />terminated as a voluntary termination unless unus~al circumstances <br />can be offered as a satisfactory explanation for the absence. <br /> <br />S E-IO. INJURY LEAVE: City employees injured while in <br />the performance of their dut:IeS may receive injury leave. Such <br />leave when granted, shall not be charged to vacation or sick leave, <br />up to ~ maximum of thirty daE (30). <br /> <br />S E-Il. MATERNITY LEAVE: An employee who becomes pregnant <br />may continue working, if he:r:~ health permits, until the end of her <br />eighth (8th) month of pre<j"nancy, and up until the end of her ninth <br />months (9th) of pregnancy, if a doctor's written permission to do so <br />is submitted to the City. ']~he employee will be granted a maternity <br />leave of absence without pay if she so requests in writing, prior to <br />the initiation of a leave. Sick leave and vacation leave may be <br />used for maternity leave, if desired. The maternity leave of <br />absence may not go beyond six (6) weeks after the birth of the child, <br />unless an extension is grant:ed consistent with State and Federal Law. <br />The employee will be enti,tlE~d to return to her former position {f- <br />she so returns within six (6) weeks of the birth of her child and <br />presents a doctor's statement indicating her fitness to work. <br /> <br />S G-I. MANDATOHY RETIREMENT: In the interest of encourag-ing <br />employees to plan for and enjoy their senior citizen years and to <br />promote continual traininl:;f of upcoming employees, employees shall <br />retire from City service at the end of the calendar year durihg which <br />they reach 70 or as is consistent with State and Federal Law. The <br />Ci ty Administrator may ex'tend to any employee I s tenure in the interest <br />of public service, in writing and on a year-by-year basis after an <br />employee reaches the age of 70 and as is consistent with State and <br />Federal Law. ~physical ;=xc~ination may be required for each year <br />the employee works beyond the age of 70. This section does not apply <br />to part-time or temporary help. Any employees retained after age 2Q <br />shall be subject to the following provisions: <br /> <br />a. All full time and part-time employees over <br />the age of 70 shall be eligible for whatever <br />h=nefits areavailable to them under the terms <br />of current and future group life and health <br />insurance programs and retirement programs; <br />however, it is understood that such programs <br />often contain special provisions for those <br />employees over age 70 and that the existing <br />programs are subjectto change by the City <br />Council. Employee eligibility shall be <br />subject to each and every condition and <br />requirement of the above listed programs as <br />they exist from time to time. <br /> <br />b. Regular full time and part-time employees <br />over the age of 70 shall be entitled to <br />part:icipate in sick leave and vacation time <br />benefits to the same extent as other employees. <br />It is understood that such benefits are also <br />subject to change by the City Council in the <br />course of normal activities of bidding for <br />insurance, retirement and health care benefits. <br /> <br />-7- <br />
