<br />Categorical industry means one of the industries for which the EP A has established or is <br />in the process of establishing categorical pretreatment standards. <br />Categorical pretreatment standard means any specifying quantities or concentrations of <br />pollutants or pollutant properties which may be discharged to a POTW by existing or new <br />industrial users in specific industrial subcategories will be established as separate regulations <br />under the appropriate subpart of 40 CFR chapter I, subchapter N. Parts 405-471. <br />Chemical oxygen demand means the oxygen equivalent of that portion of organic matter <br />in a wastewater sample that is susceptible to oxidation by a strong chemical oxidant, expressed in <br />terms of weight and concentration (mg/l). <br />City means the City of Louisville, the city council of Louisville, or a person designated <br />by the city council to act for the city. <br />CFR means Code of Federal Regulations, a codification of the general and permanent <br />rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agency of the federal <br />government. <br />Compliance schedule means any schedule for meeting a compliance deadline required by <br />city, state or U.S.E.P.A. <br />Composite sample means a representative flow-proportioned or time-proportioned <br />sample, collected within a 24-hour period composed of a minimum of four individual samples <br />collected at equally spaced intervals and combined according to flow or time or as modified by <br />the approving authority. <br />Conventional pollutant means biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solid, pH, <br />fecal coliform bacteria, oil and grease plus any additional identified in the POTW's NPDES <br />permit, where the POTW is designed to treat such pollutants, and in fact does treat such <br />pollutants to the degree required by the NPDES permit limitations. <br />Cooling water means water discharged from any use such as air conditioning, cooling, <br />refrigeration or any thermal heat exchange process to which the only pollutant added is heat. <br />Control authority. The term "control authority" shall refer to the director of public works of the <br />city or his designated agent. <br />Critical industry means a user which is a significant user, a categorical industry or which <br />is required to report the storage of hazardous materials pursuant to the requirements of this <br />chapter. This includes both significant and potential contributors. <br />DElily mtlximbll'n means the maximum concentration allov/uble in a discharge during a <br />calendar day.
