Sustainability Advisory Board
June 15, 2011 Meeting Minutes
Page 3of 2
IX.Baseline Energy Audits Conducted by CU Denver (Mary Ann)
Mary Ann reviewed the details of the baseline greenhouse gas/energy assessments offered by
CU Denver (see handout). She stressed that the assessments were much more
comprehensive than the Boulder County study. Also, that once completed, the city owned both
the data and the system that would allow for analysis of impactonceimprovements were made.
The benefits of such an evaluationwere discussed. Andy pointed out that, although the Public
Works Department had made significant progress in energy savingsand may not benefit from
such a study, thestudy coveredfood, transportation, waste, residential, and commercial
aspects–information the City does not have. The auditwould not only provide operational
information but educational benefits as well.
Adiscussion of the cost was held. Cullen indicated that $1200.00 was extremely reasonable: a
similar study his company had just proposed was priced between $70 -80,000.00. Tom said
that the board could ask him to submita request in a quarterly budget submittal if desired.
Prior to submittinga request for funding, Mary Ann was asked to identify auditbenefits with
communities which have already participated in the program.
She will also continue to be in contact with the program’s manager to determine whether the
th
Wal-Mart grants would be available next year. (That decision is anticipatedby July 15).
X.Solar-Homes Tour update and LSAB’s Action Plan, Solar PV Kiosk (Andy)
Andy said that there is one confirmed home and a long list of others that need applications. He
said that once we hit July, we need to start working with center for resource conservation (CRC)
for marketing (newspapers, websites). He indicated that it was too early to look for volunteers:
that will be done in august.
nd
The touris October 2.
Tom mentioned that there will be links to the solar panel system in one week
XI.Update on Urban Agriculture White Paper (Annie)
This item was tabled until next month –Annie had not received the paper from the Planning
Department.
XIII.Adjourn:19:51.
Action Items:
Mary Ann -forward Livable Cities presentation to Cullen for reformatting.
Annie -forward composting article for review and comment.
Andy -provide a notice of the homes tour for the newsletter.
Tom -investigate Dave Sabatos makinga presentation prior to the Parade of Lights.
Mary Ann –research benefits of CU energy audits.
