Staff Updates <br /> Still working on the review of Hecla Dam. The first draft of comments on <br />preliminary dam infrastructure has been submitted. Will be meeting with <br />the developer to discuss how to proceed. There will also be a feasibility <br />study regarding the potential to convey water from Hecla to Harney <br />Lastoka. <br /> Hwy. 36 Commuter Bike path: The City is interested in the trail alignment <br />along Hwy 36. Staff is in discussion with Boulder County Open Space and <br />CDOT about how to proceed with trail alignment on Scriffiny Open Space. <br /> Staff started a GIS project to map all of the memorial benches. The plan <br />is that this will lead to a public, interactive map that will provide the public <br />with much more information about these donations. <br /> Additionally, staff is considering putting in trail material (such as <br />o <br />crusher fines) under the benches in order to limit the amount of <br />weeds growing under the benches. <br /> VoloCity – Working on a couple of projects, including a stream clean up <br />and fencing at Davidson Mesa. <br /> Ember has submitted a request for Open Space Education funding in the <br />2012 budget. <br /> Staff is patching the prairie dog barrier at Daughenbaugh. The brown <br />material that is out there is no longer available so the patch work will be <br />black. <br /> Open Space Zone District Ordinance No. 1597, Series 2011is going <br />nd <br />before Council on August 2 for the second reading. <br /> Staff is reviewing job applications for the Open Space Specialist position. <br /> City of Louisville, Defenders of Wildlife, and a volunteer are hoping to <br />screen a movie called “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our <br />Time” which was developed by the Aldo Leopold Foundation. This would <br />be a free movie open to the public. After the film, booths sponsored by <br />different agencies would be available to discuss volunteer opportunities <br />available in Boulder County. Target date is end of August or beginning of <br />September, on a weekday evening. <br />th <br /> Minute to Win It Nature Trivia is taking place on July 27 from 1-2. This <br />will be a combination of trivia questions and game challenges. Targeting <br />the “tweens” age group. <br /> Fire at Harper Lake – Was less than .5 acres and cause by children <br />playing with a lighter. The grass will recover but the cottonwood may not. <br /> Prairie Dog control is scheduled at Aquarius, Davidson Mesa and <br />Gateway. <br /> Improvement to the Davidson Mesa dog off-leash entryway will occur this <br />month. Improvements include: new gates, new wire mesh fencing, grading <br /> <br />
