Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
July 13, 2011
for drainage and pouring concrete in the entryway. This work will cause
temporary closures of the entryway.
Coyote Letter – Coyotes had been noticed along Main Street, staff and
volunteers have developed a letter to encourage downtown businesses to
keep trash out of coyote’s reach.
There have been some re-sprouts on Russian Olives, staff is developing a
removal plan for the fall.
CCTV: Staff has approved the contract with CCTV. OSAB needs to
decide who will read the introduction.
The recent storms have caused the death of a number of raptor chicks.
There has also been damage to trees and trails.
VII. Board Update
None.
VIII. Discussion Item: Way Finding in Open Space
a. Maps at Trailheads
b. Additional Signs and Kiosks with Maps
c. Mobile Applications
Ember notes that the preliminary recommendations from the Master Plan
are that way finding infrastructure be improved. Mileage markers have
also been requested by the public.
Intersections should have signage. Additionally, it would be useful to have
smaller scale maps for the particular section of the open space.
Kiosks could be added at Harper Lake and Daughenbaugh, where there
are major open space parking lots. These kiosks, including existing kiosks
at Aquarius and Davidson Mesa, could have maps available.
IX. Discussion: Davidson Mesa Geocache Project
Two versions: One is family friendly (and can be done without a GPS),
and the other is a more technical version for the geocaching community.
The subcommittee is looking for comments on the draft.
Ember pointed out the need for the caches to be maintained for the long
term.
The plan is to run the initial program launch (the contest) for approximately
a month. The plan is to do this at the end of August to the end of
September.
Question: How do we get the questions/forms back?
X. Discussion: Davidson Mesa Trail Construction
(regarding the trail that is
on top of the ridge and south of the dog off-leash area)
Staff is trying to get the word out to the public about the possibility of
building a new trail – unmowed, 4’ width, crusher fines. Staff wishes to
post a flyer at Davidson Mesa to raise public awareness.
