• 2000 Historic building survey is conducted to further identify historic resources in the Old Town area. • 2001 Home Rule Charter is approved by voters which requires the City establish a Historic Preservation Commission • 2002 Historic Preservation Commission established by City Council • 2005 Historic Preservation Ordinance is adopted by the City Council upon recommendation of the Historic Preservation Commission and Planning Commission. " WHEREAS the City Council finds that the adoption of this historic preservation ordinance will promote the protection and preservation of the City's historic and cultural heritage; will promote the enhancement of property values and the stabilization of historic neighborhoods; will increase the economic and financial benefits realized through the City's attraction to tourists and visitors, and will promote the provision of education opportunities to increase public appreciation of Louisville's unique heritage ". • 2008 Louisville voters pass 2 -A to increase taxes to provide incentives to further protect historic resources and the historic character of Old Town.
