• 2000 Historic building survey is conducted to further identify historic resources in <br />the Old Town area. <br />• 2001 Home Rule Charter is approved by voters which requires the City establish a <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />• 2002 Historic Preservation Commission established by City Council <br />• 2005 Historic Preservation Ordinance is adopted by the City Council upon <br />recommendation of the Historic Preservation Commission and Planning <br />Commission. " WHEREAS the City Council finds that the adoption of this <br />historic preservation ordinance will promote the protection and preservation of the <br />City's historic and cultural heritage; will promote the enhancement of property <br />values and the stabilization of historic neighborhoods; will increase the economic <br />and financial benefits realized through the City's attraction to tourists and visitors, <br />and will promote the provision of education opportunities to increase public <br />appreciation of Louisville's unique heritage ". <br />• 2008 Louisville voters pass 2 -A to increase taxes to provide incentives to further <br />protect historic resources and the historic character of Old Town. <br />
