Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 18, 2007

amounts of glass, specifically on the northwest corner, were thought to be out of
character for the area.

Members' suggestions for the building were to make it more simple in appearance and
to have more pedestrian, street-level continuity. In addition, they recommend the use of
less glass and perhaps more brick. In general they would like a building that is more
consistent with the character and context of downtown.

It was repeatedly mentioned that the building as proposed looks like it would fit in well at
the corner of Canyon and 28th Streets in Boulder, a more urban setting, but w. d not fit
in well in downtown Louisville. Members mentioned that perhaps it could h re of
the characteristics of 901 Front Street.

Commission members would like to thank the architects for retainin
development plan, particularly in light of some of the comments mad t the preliminary
review hearing. The Commission strongly encourages the owners to la
Market, 920 Main Street, as a part of this development. While 920 will n be changed by
the new construction, it will be significantly impacted by th evelopment. The
Commission feels that Joe's Market is a historic builditili9 t eligible for land marking
and is an important piece of historic downtown Louisvil' .

Preservation Recognition Awards
Members reviewed photos of possible winners for the awards.
