<br />CITY OF LOUISVillE. CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />Boulder and Weld counties. At this time, the <br />City owns, either alone or in conjunction with <br />other governmental entities, approximately <br />1700 acres of designated open space. The <br />residential size of the City is not likely to grow <br />significantly as there is little room. Commercial <br />and industrial growth, however, are expected, <br />as there is room for both in Centennial Valley <br />and the Colorado Tech Center. <br /> <br />approximately 150 FTEs and a 2007 total <br />budget of $32,464,449, including general fund, <br />capital, and enterprise funds. <br /> <br />THE POSITION <br /> <br />The City Manager is the chief administrative <br />officer of the City and is appointed by the City <br />Council and is responsible for implementing <br />policy established by City <br />Council and for the <br />administration of all City <br />offices and departments. The <br />City Manager's Office also <br />oversees human resources, <br />intergovernmental relations, <br />the City Clerk's Office, <br />insurance and risk <br />management, Louisville <br />Channel 8, public information, <br />special events, block closure applications, <br />neighborhood issues, community facilitation, <br />and the Comcast and Xcel Franchise <br />agreements. <br /> <br /> <br />Louisville Colorado has a total <br />of 6 schools in the Boulder <br />Valley RE2 district. There are <br />3 elementary schools, 1 <br />middle school and the <br />Monarch School campus, <br />featuring a high school and K- <br />8 school. In addition, there is <br />one private school in <br />Louisville. The Boulder Valley <br />RE2 District has established itself among the <br />top tier of Colorado's 178 school districts. <br /> <br />THE CITY <br /> <br />The City of Louisville is a Colorado municipality <br />with approximately 19,000 residents and <br />encompasses approximately 7.82 square <br />miles. The City, incorporated in 1882, lies in <br />Boulder County, roughly six miles east of the <br />City of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of <br />Denver. <br /> <br />As a home rule city operating under a council- <br />manager form of government, the City Council <br />is the governing body of the City. The Mayor is <br />elected at-large and two council mE!mbers are <br />elected from each of the City's three wards, <br />each to a four-year term. Louisville <br />Fire Protection District. The City has <br /> <br />After serving as City Manager for 12 years, Mr. <br />Bill Simmons has resigned to pursue other <br />opportunities. The Assistant City Manager, Ms. <br />Heather Balser, is currently serving as interim <br />City Manager. The City Manager has eight <br />director reports, including the Assistant City <br />Manager, Chief of Police, Finance and <br />Information Services Director, Public Works <br />Director, Public Library Director, Land <br />Management Director, Recreation and Senior <br />Services Director, and Planning and Building <br />Safety Director. <br /> <br />KEY ISSUES FACING THE CITY <br /> <br />Community Planning and Growth <br />Louisville is responding to community growth <br />and planning issues, including divergent <br />community opinion regarding the future rate of <br />population growth. This has left the City with <br />the difficult position of responding to <br />community pressure to limit growth, while <br />providing quality services to residents within a <br />balanced budget.
