Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 18, 2011

stated Lehman has agreed to make all access improvements on the inside of the
building so as not to modify the front façade.
Koertje asked if there was a timeline established for the interior modifications.
Poppitz stated not yet.
Update – Demo Request – Rod and Gun Club, 1101 South Street
Speier stated he and Stewart had met with Rick Brew regarding this project. He stated
it is a tough design assistance because there isn’t any planned unit development (PUD)
concept yet to determine a decent reuse.
Speier added Brew has stated he would prefer to relocate the structure but Speier and
Stewart did not think believe that was a preferred option.
Speier stated he and Stewart will continue to work with Brew to research costs for
relocation versus rehabilitation.
Stewart added he and Speier also discussed with Brew the added incentives from the
state for preserving the structure.
Brew spoke regarding a conversation he had with a professional building mover. The
cost would be between $20,000 and $40,000.
Poppitz asked Brew if they had chosen a design firm yet.
Brew stated they only had engineers at this point. They didn’t have a deadline for a
submittal either.
Brew recommended the Commission should consider a historic park for the relocation
of buildings such as this.
Poppitz stated he was currently working on researching where an historic park could be
located in the City of Louisville.
Koertje stated an historic park is a last resort – not a preferred alternative to preserving
the structure.
Speier stated he didn’t see a problem with modifying the structure. He would prefer
seeing a modification rather than a relocation.
Stewart stated he appreciated Brew’s openness on the project and hopes it continues
throughout the project.
Koertje added he could help educate Brew on potential tax credits as well.
Brew appreciated the assistance.
Update/Discussion/Action – Demolition Ordinance
