Memorandum
To:Historical Commission
From:Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date:September 12, 2011
Re:Museum Coordinator’s Report
I put together an exhibit for the cases in the Library lobby to tie in with “On the Same Page”
and the book The Worst Hard Time. The topic is “Louisville During the Great Depression,”
and it is intended to complement the latest Louisville Historian. I will also be coordinating a
“Brown Bag” on Tuesday, October 4 from 12 to 1 atthe Library for people to sharetheir own
family stories of the Depression, whether from Boulder County or elsewhere.
The Summer Louisville Historianwas mailed out just after the last Commission meeting. The
next one will be about historic houses in Louisville that were relocatedfromother locations
such as mine camps, with Heather Lewis to contribute the lead article.
A Sept. 7 article inColorado Hometown Newspaper focused on the Museumanniversary.
The three walking tours this summer given by Anne Robinson and Diane Marino have so far
resulted in donations to the Commission of $201.
Wayne Lee and Maggie Snyder’s August presentation at the Library resulted in a donation
of $45 to the Commission, based on the number of books that they sold that evening.
Juniper Village, which is an assisted living community in Louisville for individuals with
Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias, has inquired about the possibility of having
someone come there to speak to their residents about our area’s history. If any Commission
members are interested in giving a talk, please let me know.
The terms of the following Historical Commission members are expiring at the end of 2011:
Sally Burlingame, Dave Ferguson, Diane Marino, Dan Mellish, Sean Moynihan, and Anne
Robinson. If any of you would like to reapplyand still need the application form, I can
provide it, or it can be obtained from City Hall.
The City has had some work done at the Museum in terms of relocating pipes (so they won’t
freeze), remodeling the restroom, staining shingles, replacing the Jacoe Store door, and
making some other important modifications. We’ll give the latest updates at the meeting!
In August, Sally Burlingame, Debby Fahey, and Gail Khasawneh represented the Museum
at the ANFRM Volunteer Group meeting at the GreeleyHistory Museum. Also, I attended
the September ANFRM Professional Group meeting in Broomfield. It included presentations
onnew ideas in exhibit design and programming design for museums, with an emphasis on
different visitor identities and how to market toeach type of visitor.
Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not inquiries
August visitors: 118; YTD visitors: 711.
that come in by email or phone):
