She noted that in February, the Commissionhad
approved funding for the curtain to be appraised and then cleaned by a
professional conservator. She stated that she and Beth Barrett had discussed all
of the public interest in seeing the curtainagain since it has been donated, and that
they havebeen pursuing a way to exhibit the curtain along the north wall of the
Jacoe Storefor a time before it is removedto be cleaned. She noted that it would
also be much easier for the appraiser to do his job while the curtain is hanging. An
exhibits professional has had an opportunity to viewthe curtain and space, andhas
given an estimate of $150 to quickly put up the curtain as is, or up to $1000 to put
up the curtain using a more professionalmethodthat would be needed eventually
for future exhibiting. The curtain could be exhibited in the Museum along with the
Rex Theatre seats, ticket stand, andother items from the Rexthat are in the
Museum’s collection, and this could even be accomplished and promoted in time
for the September member receptionso that our members can be among the first
to be able to view the curtain. Bridgetalso announcedthat the donors of a recent
$666 memorial donation in memory of John and Elma Allera would like their
donation to be put towards this effort, as the Allera grocery store is one of the 22
Louisville businesses advertised on the curtain. The Commission voted to approve
up to $1000.00topay for the expenses of exhibitingthe Rex Theatrecurtainat the
Museum and make it accessible for the public to view.
3.
To purchase copies of the bookLouisville: At Home in aSmall Townby Wayne Lee
and Maggie Snyder for resaleat the Museum, the Commission approved $187.50.
The book will be sold at the Museum for $38.00, which includes sales tax.
