LIBRARY MUSEUM NEWS <br />SEPT —OCT <br />2011 <br />Museum Artifacts on Exhibit at <br />the Library <br />In September and October, the Library's art gallery display <br />cases will feature an exhibit entitled "Louisville During the <br />Great Depression" that's inspired by the one -book project, 'On <br />The Same Page'. The exhibit will feature some of the Museum's <br />photos and artifacts from Louisville in the 1930s. Stop by and <br />take a look and pick up a current issue of The Louisville <br />Historian, which highlights Louisville during the Depression. <br />Programs Events <br />Adults Families (303- 335 -4820) <br />Family Sign Language <br />WED, September 14 4:30- 6:30pm <br />This class is designed for adults and older children as a fun <br />way to learn more about communicating through American <br />Sign Language. <br />Surprise Musical Performance! <br />SAT, October 8 11am <br />Join us for a surprise musical performance on the steps of <br />the Louisville Public Library. We have partnered with the <br />CU- Boulder College of Music and the CU- Boulder Office for <br />University Outreach to provide a musical performance that is <br />sure to entertain Library patrons and famers' market foodies <br />alike. <br />Children (303- 335 -4821) <br />Sky is Back for Read to Rover! <br />Saturdays 10 -11am <br />Beginning September 10, Sky the Husky is <br />back in town and anxious to see old friends <br />and make some new ones, too! Contact the <br />Children's Services desk to reserve your 15- <br />minute reading slot <br />Homework Help Center Mondays (grades 1 -3) <br />Resumes Sept. 12 4:30- 5:30pm <br />Volunteers will be available help children in grades 1 -3. Space <br />is limited and pre registration is required. Please call or stop <br />by the Children's Services desk to sign up. <br />Reading Buddies, Fall Session Begins September 18 <br />Registration Ends September 13 <br />The program pairs Little Buddies, children in grades K -2, with <br />a Big Buddy high school volunteer. You may sign up through <br />our website or in person at the Children's Services desk. <br />Art /Literacy Class Returns (grades 3 -6) <br />Mondays Sept. 19 -Dec. 5 4- 5:15pm <br />This program is designed to teach children to express <br />themselves through art and literature. Space is limited and <br />pre registration is required. Please call or stop by the <br />Children's Services desk to sign up. <br />De- haunting Wild Things <br />THURS, October 27 6- 7:30pm all ages <br />Walk through a de- haunted library, enjoy some Halloween <br />treats, and learn the un -scary truth about bats, spiders, <br />snakes, and other beasties that give most people the willies. <br />No sign up needed stop by the Library and enjoy a new <br />Halloween tradition. Co- sponsored by Louisville Parks Open <br />Space. <br />Teens (303- 335 -4845) <br />Teen Read Week October 16 -22 <br />"Picture It your library®" <br />Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library <br />Services Association (YALSA) and is in its 14th year. This year's <br />theme encourages teens to read graphic novels and other <br />illustrated materials, seek out creative books, or imagine the <br />world through literature, just for the fun of it We'll be offering <br />a variety of special events and programs aimed at encouraging <br />teens to read for pleasure and to visit their Library for free <br />reading materials. Best selling author, Jay Asher is the <br />spokesperson for Teen Read Week 2011. <br />Historical Museum (303 665 9048) <br />Historic Walking Tours of Downtown Louisville <br />SAT September 3, October 1 <br />This season we are featuring two different tours: <br />Main Street Stories <br />September 3 <br />Tour leaves at 10:30am from <br />the front steps of the Louisville <br />Public Library. Anne Robinson <br />will lead the tour. <br />Homes, Schools Churches <br />October 1 <br />Tour leaves at 10:30am from <br />the front of the Louisville <br />Center for the Arts. Diane <br />Marino will lead the tour. <br />The suggested donation is $5.00 per person. Please call the <br />Historical Museum for more information. <br />'Brown Bag' Talk October 4 12 -1pm <br />"Family Stories of the Depression" <br />How did the Great Depression affect your family? Come share <br />your personal memories of the Depression or stories from <br />your family, whether based in the Boulder County area or <br />elsewhere.
