<br />City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 5, 2007 <br />Page 9 of 14 <br />Robert Pierce, 1827 Eisenhower Drive, Louisville, CO recommended the <br />program be continued, but with an amendment to eliminate the rebate to seniors <br />who receive the Colorado Homestead program. He explained the State program <br />also offers a rebate for renters and for heat relief. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENT <br /> <br />Council member Marsella reported the Finance Committee recommend <br />eliminating the program due to the reinstatement of the State program, current <br />budget constraints and the burden it places on Staff. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Brown stated his understanding of the history of the Senior <br />Rebate Program and noted in 1973 there weren't any local programs for the <br />seniors. Now, through the Recreation Center there are many senior programs <br />subsidized by the City. He supported discontinuing the program. <br /> <br />Council member Yarnell supported the option described by Mr. Pierce. <br /> <br />Council member Marsella felt the option outlined by Mr. Pierce would add a <br />further burden on City Staff. She asked if the City budgeted funds for the Senior <br />Rebate program for 2007. Interim City Manager Balser confirmed there are <br />funds available. <br /> <br />Council member Clabots agreed that when the ordinance was written there <br />weren't any senior programs such as those now offered at the Recreation/Senior <br />Center. <br /> <br />Mr. Pierce stated eliminating the seniors who receive the State Program would <br />reduce the burden on the City Staff. He noted the Senior Advisory Board <br />reviewed this issue at their meeting <br /> <br />Susan Morris, 939 W. Maple Court, Louisville, CO explained the program began <br />in 1973, when the population was small. The intent of the ordinance was to <br />assist senior citizens remain in their homes and in Louisville. She felt the <br />compromise offered by Mr. Pierce had merit. <br /> <br />Council directed Staff to brin~~ forward an ordinance, repealing the senior <br />property tax ordinance effectlive in 2008. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION/FUNDING REQUEST - BOULDER COUNTY CONSORTIUM <br />OF CITIES SALES TAX REVENUE SHARING PROPOSAL <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Brown explained the Boulder County Consortium of Cities has <br />investigated the possibility of sales tax revenue sharing for the governmental <br />
