<br />City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 19, 2007 <br />Page 4 of 13 <br /> <br />participate with other municipalities in the American Cancer Society East Boulder <br />County Relay for Life, which will be held on August 3, at the Monarch High <br />School Campus. <br /> <br />Ann Palius, 807 Rose Rock Court, Louisville, CO read the description of the <br />Relay for Life event. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION - WEST NILE VIRUS, BOULDER COUNTY HEALTH <br />DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br /> <br />Land Management Director R:obson introduced Mr. Joe Malinowski from the <br />Boulder County Health Department. <br /> <br />Joe Malinowski reported meeting with elected officials in various municipalities <br />within Boulder County this year to describe how the County will be assessing the <br />West Nile Virus (WNV) risks during the approaching mosquito season. He <br />reviewed the historical overvil3w of WNV in Colorado through a slide <br />presentation. He discussed improvements made to WNV risk assessment, and <br />described how those improvements will help avoid a WNV outbreak in 2007 and <br />how they will affect response time for mosquito control. He explained the County <br />realizes the public is sensitivE! to spraying for mosquitoes and will recommend <br />the best management practic1es to achieve a safe and healthy community during <br />the WNV season. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENT <br /> <br />Council Clabots requested thl9 slide presentation be put on the City's Web Page. <br /> <br />Land Management Director Hobson reported the City of Louisville has contracted <br />with Colorado Mosquito Control for mosquito control services. The Land <br />Management Department has historically managed mosquito control contracts <br />and provides direction to the contractors, particularly when decisions must be <br />made when/where to chemically control mosquitoes for nuisance and WNV <br />purposes. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk stated the City must act, and continue to obtain Boulder County <br />Health Department advisements. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Brown noted the science on mosquito control had improved over <br />the past few years. <br /> <br />Mike McGinnis, President, Colorado Mosquito Control, 695 North ih Avenue, <br />Brighton, CO was present to answer questions regarding mosquito control <br />
