Community Education <br />1. There was no official report, as Bill Unrau has resigned from the <br />Commission. <br />2. The proposed Kids' Page is being considered as a handout at events <br />instead of as an insert in The Louisville Historian. <br />C. Events and Fundraising <br />1. The April 25th Historical Society program with volunteer historical <br />researcher William Cohen reporting on his research on the 1936 <br />Monarch Mine explosion was a standing room only success. It was <br />estimated that over 130 people were in attendance, making it the most <br />attended Society program yet. <br />2. Preparations are underway for A Taste of Louisville on Saturday, June 9. <br />Following tradition, fresh pizzelles will be made and given out by <br />Commission members in front of the Museum. There will be two locations <br />for merchandise sales, the Museum and a table near City Hall. The <br />supplies for selling at events have been organized and an inventory sheet <br />prepared to keep track of the supplies. <br />3. Posters and postcards are being made based on images of two historic <br />postcards from the Museum's collection, and it is planned that they will be <br />sold starting at A Taste of Louisville in June. The Commission authorized <br />the framing in advance of 25 of each of the two posters. The posters will <br />be available for purchase both framed and unframed. <br />D. Membership - Ideas of how to continue to increase membership were <br />discussed. The number of new memberships in 2006 represented an <br />increase of 125% over the previous year and the Commission considered <br />various approaches to continue attracting new members. It was reported that <br />the renewal rate is high and that recipients of complimentary memberships <br />often become paying members. <br />E. Volunteers - There was no report, as Sally Burlingame was absent. <br />F. Public Relations <br />1. A networking meeting with historical organizations in Louisville, Superior, <br />and Lafayette, to be hosted by the Historical Commission, is being <br />planned to follow up on the meeting hosted by Superior in the spring. <br />2. The Commission is tentatively scheduled for a City Council Study Session <br />in August. Donna Hauswald will prepare a letter for the City Council from <br />the Commission regarding needs of the Historical Museum. <br /> <br />XI. Chairperson's Report <br />A. The application has been filed to request a non-profit postal rate to be used <br />by the Commission for bulk mailings. <br />B. Donna Hauswald and Bridget Bacon have been working on drafting the <br />Strategic Plan for the Commission and Museum, based on the strategic <br />planning session that took place in February. <br />C. Signature approval at the bank will take place when Treasurer Dave <br />Ferguson returns. <br />
