CR JJ GOur C(11 RV, PRLclIu_\.JR L0.11c
PUTTING GREENS
C urrently, Coal Creek Golf Course has nineteen sand -based putting greens which were
originally grassed with Creeping Bentgrass. Today, the putting surfaces have been
contaminated with annual bluegrass (Poa annua). Annual bluegrass, is essentially a weed
which very aggressively establishes itself at the lower cutting heights found on golf courses.
Unfortunately, annual bluegrass is not shade tolerant, heat tolerant or completely winter
hardy. This results in a patchwork pattern of grasses and, with the prevalent shade and
irrigation issues, results in a high risk of turf loss due to both winter injury and summer heat
stress. In general, the greens are adequately sized and have a sufficient number of areas
to cut a cup. Based on our visual review, the greens appear agronomically sound. Aside
from fixing a few relatively minor issues with the greens, we would not see reconstruction
of the putting surfaces as a high priority issue at this time.
FAIRWAYS ROUGHS
L ike most public golf courses in Colorado, the existing fairways, tees and
Creek were originally grassed with Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa praten i
fairways have been contaminated with both annual bluegras (Po
bentgrass (Agrostis palustris).
