The report was clear and
there were no questions. Bridget Bacon passed out a brochure created for the
th
150 anniversary of Boulder County describing a self-guided tour of historical sites,
including some in Louisville. She noted that Marion Junior gave the Museum an
album with photos of all the ornaments that she has made for Commission
fundraising over the years. Bridget reported that at a recent Professional Group
meeting of the Association of Northern Front Range Museums, she learned from
staff at History Colorado about how museums and other cultural organizations are
being encouraged to focus their efforts on high mission, high return programming,
a concept that can be applied in Louisville. Bridget noted that Commission
members whose terms are up at the end of this year are Sally Burlingame, David
Ferguson, Diane Marino, Dan Mellish, Sean Moynihan, and Anne Robinson. She
conveyed the message that if these members are interested in continuing to serve
on the Commission, they will need to reapply in accordance with the City’s process.
Also, she noted that the following members are due for the City’s open government
training in November: Sally Burlingame, Brian Chamberlin, Dan Mellish, Pat
Seader, and Jennifer Strand.
th
3. Review of events celebrating the Museum’s 25 anniversary (updates):
a.
Recent article in Colorado Hometown Weekly
b.
Banner displayed on the side of the Museum
c.
The Museum participated in the Sept. 3 Louisville, Lafayette, and Superior
museums’ open hours events and had pizzelles available made by Pat
Seader and Diane Marino and drew 65 visitors.
d.
The Historical Commission participated in the Labor Day Parade with Lynn
Koglin and Sean Moynihan participating in the Library’s entry.
e.
Anniversary Open House for Members and Friends of the Museum held
Friday, September 16. The event drew about 200 people and was
successful at the Museum site. The event was less well attended at the
Creative Framing site. In the future the Commission may try to hold events
at only one location at a time. Lynn suggested that the Commission
consider hosting an annual event at about the same time each year.
D. Chairperson’s Report.
Dan Mellish allowed time during his report to be used for a review
of the Anniversary Open House along with his observations of the experience and
encouragement for the Commission to send thank you notes to Janet at Creative Framing
and the Museum Founders who generously supported the event with their time. Jennifer
will send the thank you notes. Dan Mellish also followed up on a request of Bridget’s and
asked if there was a volunteer to speak on Louisville History to residents of Juniper Village.
Brian Chamberlin said that he would coordinate a visit with them.
E. Consistency in Membership Numbers for City Boards and Commissions
: Dan
explained that in the past, the Louisville City Council set the number of members of the
Historical Commission so as to allow the number to go up to 15. This is a greater number
than the number set for other City boards and commissions. Discussion followed about the
desirability of starting to make the size of the Commission consistent with that of other
boards, while providing for a high enough number to allow for the possibility of
