She added the house is very structurally sturdy but the electrical
and plumbing have not been updated.
Tofte asked if they have gotten a radon test.
McHugh answered no.
Speier commented the late additions (dormers) have made the building more architecturally
interesting.
Lewis stated this was a great application.
Tofte agreed.
Speier reminded the applicant the HPC provides design assistance.
Koertje stated it is a great application and the National Registry almost makes it a presumptive
landmark.
Stewart and Fasick agreed.
Koertje asked the applicant if they wanted to landmark the garage and if they were happy to
name the house the “Thomas House”.
McHugh answered affirmative on both questions.
Lewis made a motion to approve the application. Koertje seconded and asked for a friendly
amendment to include “National Registry” and “100 years in one family” as reasons for
approval.
Lewis agreed.

Name Vote
Mike Koertje Yes
Heather Lewis Yes
Jessica Fasick Yes
Florian Speier Yes
Peter Stewart Yes
Laurel Tofte Yes
Steve Poppitz Excused
Motion passed: 6 to 0

PUBLIC HEARINGGrant Request – 557 Jefferson Avenue
–
McCartney presented the packet material.
Lewis inquired if the house currently had lead paint.
McCartney stated he was unsure but the applicant might know.
Ann Marie Spear, applicant, stated there was lead paint and the painting contractor has
provided a plan on how to deal with paint chips and disposal.
