Walt would like to go back to the basics. The youngest children need a sandbox area where they can play. Let's
think of what the kids really need, keep it simple, and inexpensive.
Karen asked if we have parameters on the price range we would like to see. $5,000 is not realistic. We don't
want wood structures because they are splintery and require a lot of maintenance. The least expensive good
quality steel and plastic constructed structures are within $6,000 8,000. $10,000 to $15,000 is more realistic.
Even though it is only for 8 -.10 children, we need to remember that this needs to be more durable than a
backyard structure.
Frank said there was no budget in Sunnyside to pay for this. There was some conversation around the potential
city funding.
Bonnie said that there was thought of a partial contribution from the City of Lafayette. If the money is
available, it won't be hard to get it designated.
Scott hoped that we would get $10,000 15,000, covered by the City fund.
Frank says he thinks the board needs to make a decision about how much money to allocate and are we willing
to go to council with a decision.
Sherry said there was originally $50,000 for planning. We have now done windows and the ice melt that are
both safety issues. The playground would be a good use for those funds.
Section 8: HCV Program Report
c. Monthly statistics
Chuck said that currently we have 71 units with Section 8 vouchers in Louisville.
Update on Habitat for Humanity Project
Bonnie said that the message from Bob Quellin is that they are not moving super fast, they are working on it and
have it scheduled for the future. She suspects there will be 2 duplexes there, possibly 3. The architect will be
going to the site to discuss design concepts later this month. They have a whole year for planning and will
possibly be using university students for the design work.
Items for the October 25 meeting
Update from the City Council meetings, the Study session, Presentation by the auditors, and another version of
the Sunnyside playground
Walt made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Kelly seconded the motion.
Meeting adjourned at 8:57.
It is the policy of the Boulder County Housing Authority to make programs, meetings, activities and services accessible to individuals with
disabilities.
