COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING, CITY MANAGER
DATE: AUGUST 23, 2011
SUBJECT: GOLF COURSE CLUBHOUSE REMODEL
ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: PARKS & RECREATION
SUMMARY:
The Golf Course Advisory Board (GCAB) has been working with City staff, Western Golf
Properties, and Jeffrey Van Sambeek, Architect & CEO of Lodestone Design Group on
developing and proposing improvements to the Clubhouse at Coal Creek Golf Course.
Accompanying this council communication, please find the most recent conceptual plans and a
summary regarding the existing structure. The final design may be impacted by whether or not
City Council selects a firm to develop a hotel and banquet facility at Coal Creek Golf Course
and subject to voter approval. The existing conceptual plans may work with the concept of
adding a hotel and banquet facility or it could prove more cost - effective to start with a clean site
by removing the clubhouse and building a new clubhouse along with the construction of a new
hotel and banquet facility.
Scheme I of the work proposed by Lodestone addresses a number of deferred maintenance
issues and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards for accessibility.
Scheme II includes everything in Scheme I plus major renovations to the existing clubhouse.
FISCAL IMPACT:
It is estimated that a remodel (Scheme II) of the existing clubhouse will cost $300,000
excluding furnishings which shall be the responsibility of Western Golf Properties. It is
estimated that the cost to address relevant repairs and corrections will cost $130,000.
RECOMMENDATION:
This information is being presented as an update to the City Council.
ATTACHMENT(S):
Schematic Facility Improvements Draft Summary
SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM
GOLF COURSE CLUBHOUSE REMODEL I Ili
8
