<br />Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />DATE <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />V. Public Comments - Mike talked about selling Louisville shirts at the city <br />booth during Friday nights. It was discussed that we could also start selling <br />bricks for the arboretum there also. Mike said he would contact Ellie and let us <br />know. <br /> <br />VI. Arboretum <br /> <br />1. Discuss pergola design/construction. The board <br />discussed shade and material options and Chris will <br />bring a preliminary design next month. <br />2. Update on status of 501 @ (3) comments on draft <br />from city attorney. The board suggested the <br />following changes: Change the name to Friends of <br />the Louisville Arboretum. Remove "parks and open <br />space areas from 4.1-A. Make the City Forester the <br />incorporator. Require that the City Forester be a <br />board member and that all other board members be <br />on HFAB. <br />3. Discuss selection of officers. Chris Lichtey, Matt <br />Tepe, Mike Frontzack, Fred Banta and Jeff Hafner will <br />comprise the initial board of directors. <br />4. Demo garden maintenance. Theresa believes that <br />the city should invest more into the garden. Chris <br />said that he would try to use some of his budget to <br />maintain the garden. <br />5. Continued discussion on engraved bricks for <br />Arboretum. Chris suggested putting in a capital <br />improvement request for the path to be constructed <br />out of bricks and then the 501 @ (3) will sell bricks <br />with engravings to slowly replace the initial bricks. <br />VII. Discussion regarding replacing of declining Ash trees on Via <br />Appia. Susan as.ked if the plan was to cut the trees down of plant in <br />between. Chris thought that some would be cut down this late summer <br />and replant in the fall with one for one replacement. Chris asked <br />HFAB to make recommendations of species and add the discussion to <br />next month's agenda. <br />VIII. Discussion of P4~sticide issue. Scott would like HFAB to make a <br />recommendation sooner than later. Susan moved to devote the whole <br />next meeting to this issue. Jeff seconded the motion. Chris stated that <br />he still wants to discuss the pergola at the arboretum. <br />IX. Ongoing development of HFAB's section on City's website. <br />Nothing new to discuss. <br />X. Discussion concerning future presentations/seminars at the <br />Library related to horticulture. Fred would like a list of books from <br />members that would be relevant to presentations. <br />
